High pressure power steering line

My car is leaking pretty good. When I pulled back the sleeve on this hose it squirted pretty good so I presume that thats my leak. Is it pretty common ?

Is this hard to replace ? Do I need any special tools ?

Its $122 http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...2846&ppt=C0031

I see these on ebay with different ends for cheaper http://www.ebay.com/itm/Power-Steeri...7eff04&vxp=mtr

or these with different ends and theyre more expensive http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-NISSAN-2002-2003-MAXIMA-POWER-STEERING-HIGH-PRESSURE-HOSE-NEW-OEM-/161071618040?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item25809dd7f8&vxp=mtr
It looks like the middle one is just a hose and connects to the valvles, the bottom ones comes with the valves or whatever they are. Im unsure as to what to get.

Easy job just did mine couple weeks ago. Just make sure you bleed the system before you crank the car, you don't want to burn out your PS pump.

That e-bay hose is for a 2002 & 2003 model. It is different from the 2000 & 2001 hose.

Its a pretty easy job, messy though. It would help if you had a friend. anyone tall enough to reach the engine bay can help so even some little kid can help you because he can turn the hose to line up the hole with the banjo to make it easier for you on the ground.

You will need a 23 or 24mm socket though ( I forgot which one)

OK cool I will give it a bash then, my son will be voluntold to help me =)

As for the line too, do I need to drop $120 on that line there or will a cheaper eBay one do ? There seems to be more to the more expensive ones though.

This thread should have all the info you need. OEM is the best hose to get, I've heard stories of lesser brands failing.

Here is the hose:

#49726 wouldn't hurt to get, it is a copper washer and you need two of them.

Thanks, ill see if I can pick one up tomorrow. Does it connect to the overflow bottle at the far end ? Ill need to go have a proper look tonight.

Is the job as simple as disconnecting the lower part of the hose and let it drain then do the top part ( two bracket bolts, disco hose and some sensor) then reverse putting it back on ? The kit at AutoZone had a couple of what looked like brass washers with em.

It does not connect to the power steering fluid tank.
You have to disconnect the bottom of the line from the pump. There is small 10 or 12 mm bolt just below the rear valve cover next to the fire wall. And then disconnect the sensor and line from the top end of the hose. And of course the 2 10 mm bolts on the passenger side suspension tower. You can get the washers too if you want. Last time I did this on my 00 it took me about 20 minutes. It is not that hard to do if you have the right tools and basic mechanical knowledge.

Should also call and get a price from the guys at www.nissanpartsasap.com as it is oem parts. Read the install threads. Just remember to have lots of towels and oil dry to catch and clean up the mess. Have at least 2 quarts of the recommended auto tranny fluid (says on cap - I used some Amsoil synthetic ATF).

When re-installing new hose with two new copper gaskets, remember to install from the BOTTOM first. Having someone hold and assist from up top isn't necessary but does help in lining things up without trying to hold the hose all at the same time. Keeps the hose from twisting as well. Just some things to consider.

I am new to mechanicing but not as dumb as I look lol. Ill try anything. This forum has saved me about a grand in labour probably, replacing oil pans, starters and this and a few other things.
