Radio Install Question

I am new here but have a couple of questions about installing a radio. So i want to know if the amp in the trunk is only hooked up to the speaker in the back or to all the speakers.

Not sure which year Maxima you are talking about, but it should be just hooked up to the back speaker.

If you have an amp in the trunk, you have a Bose system. And the Bose amp has all the speakers going through it. The Bose amp amplifies all the door speakers, but not the woofer. The amp does create the woofer signal and the woofer has its own amplifier.

When soldering your stuff up front you should match colors to colors, and there is one or two unused the wires and they are for steering wheel controls which will most likely not be used anymore unless you bought the specific steering wheel control adapter part.

Why not buy a harness? Makes the job a heck of a lot easier.

To start with, the radio you bought should come with a wire harness that plugs into the radio and you need to solder wires to it. This wire colors in this harness are used by just about all manufacturers.

You should buy an adapter harness that will plug into the Maxima's wire harness and this is what you solder the radio's harness to. The brand Metra is the most commonly available adapter, their part # is 70-7551.

The colors listed for the Metra Nissan adaptor are for an after-market adaptor and
are NOT the color of the Nissan wiring harness.

The Nissan wire harness for Bose uses 2 connectors for the radio, M62 and M61.

M62 contains wires numbered 1 through 10 and M61 has wires numbered 11 through 16.

if you have a bose system you might run into the issue of only having one cable for the front left speakers. I had that issue and when i toned it out i was missing my woofer cable. Not sure how it got signal but had to run new wire. Running new wire on the GLE's with the bose system is not fun.

Ah, good to know that little amps attached to each speaker is a Bose myth.

Where are the two amps located?

Not fully accurate. The 4th gen Maxima has an amp in each door that powers that speaker in the door.

In the 5th gen, the speaker amp is in the trunk, mounted upside down to the rear deck. The woofer amp is on the woofer itself, which is also mounted to the rear deck. Makes it looks like the woofer has a large magnet.

Good to know. Are there any ***** on the amps? Gains perhaps? I'm guessing the output is pretty low - think it's even as high as 15wpc? A 2004 Pontiac GTO I owned for a while had a stock amp for rear 6x9 subs that actually had a gain **** on it if you reached around the back of it.

No configurations whatsoever on the amps. All done through the HU.

IF installed correctly, an aftermarket HU WILL make your Bose system sound better.

Or Line Output Converter. Depends on preout voltage of the HU selected.

Also depends on what those factory amps can accept to high a output and it will clip to low an output and it wont have clarity.best way to figure it out is measure the output from the factory unit.but then again the highest output i have seen on a aftermarket is 8v output on line-level.

I use 4v as threshold.
4v or less = You need an LOC
Higher than 4v = use Metra 70-7551.
