most likely just the hose

pretty common issue
lots of people swear by oem, i'm using aftermarket and can't hear any of the noise most complain about.

Just replaced my ps pump, after I cleaned up everything and drove a little I notice the high pressure hose was a little wet, so that could have been my issue from the start. I'm going to consider using a non oem hose.

cant disagree with you. i just replaced my power steering hose and it always kinda sounds like it has no fluid. im thinking about replacing it with oem. i hate that noise.

This has happened to both my maxima's. First my 2002 and now my 2001. It's a super common issue especially once you're over 120k. I replaced my hose with the powercraft hose from advance auto parts for $120 bucks. Everything works fine and on mine there is no power steering noise at all.

Go OEM or GO Home!!!!!! The reason why our P/s high pressure hose fails is because Nissan reduced the size of our p/s oil cooler compared to that of the 4th gen! The 4th Gen should fit or you could always go with a Permacool p/s cooler!

i drove with mine bad for a little while but only short trips, checked my fluid level every time i got in and topped off as needed. i imagine if it goes dry and you keep on it you'll end up replacing your ps pump as well.

My 2002 also had the problem. It deteriorated quite fast because of the high pressure fluid. From the time I realized the leak because of the steering noise, to the time I had to add fluid every time I drove back and forth to work was about 2 weeks. It cost me $360 to have it replaced at an independent garage.
