Electronic Whining sound coming from up front? 2001 AT

I haven't had my max for very long but every time I start the car, shift into reverse, drive, park, come to a stop, and turn the engine off. It makes this electronic whining sound for a few seconds. It's a 2001AE it doesn't do anything to performance, just really annoying cuz everyone always looks with a weird look. Any ideas?

HMMM....bad fan? Maybe takes a second to spin down, and making a little noise in the process? Pop the hood, and have a hot chick turn the car off while you look. Maybe you can spot something. I don't really know of anything else under the hood that would be spinning once the engine is killed.

Seriously,.....the chicks gotta be hot, or it won't work right.

Hahahah hot chick, but in all seriousness, I've looked and the only think spinning is the radiator fan, but I don't get why it has such a bad sound to it.

Does the alternator take a bit to come to a stop? Like after the engine is shut off

Yeah those are you motor mounts...it has a servo like sound! They don't need to be plugged up...just unplug and forget about them!

Where are they located and what do they look like? Why would it make that kind of noise?

they make noise because they're going bad, auto mounts have some sort of magic jelly that makes them stiff while driving and soft when sitting still to minimize vibration. if you leaked your goo and they arent stiff anymore just buy manual ones for cheap ($100ish) and use those as a replacement.

if you still have a noise after you disconnect them then they're not the problem tho

if I unplug them and don't replace them what's the worst that can happen

the worst that can happen is your engine will fall out of the bottom of your car sending you skidding into a schoolbus and everyone dies in a huge ball of fire

but i think the most likely scenario is your engine moves a lot under the hood and the throttle feels less responsive as a result

maybe someone who knows more about this will chime in

Oh, also, if I unplug it and plug it back in, is there a chance that the ecu will freak out?

You will be sorry if you don't listen to the folks that are telling you to unplug and leave them unplugged. The mount stiffens up when it gets a signal that's all and nothing will happen if you unplug them. Save yourself while you still can.

yes, unless you want to replace your ecm one day too

imo auto replacements are not worth the money. manual work fine, are cheaper and dont put the ecm at risk.

When you unplug the motor mounts, have the engine running at 1K rpm. This puts the mount in firm mode.

I see where they are located but how am I suppose to replace them? I can't see where the actual mount is located just the wire

the mounts you need are on top of the crossmember below the engine, there are some good written instructions and also some pictures in this thread here:

I'll probably have to get a mechanic to swap them out for me... Sigh... Time to go tell mom about this
