I've got a 2001 max and for whatever reason, I've tried everything but the himelink just won't program, anyone have had experience? It'll do the fast blink so it is sensing the garage opener but just won't learn it command

Most garage doors use rolling codes now, so homelink is obsolete.

I've yet to see a successful workaround.

I've read that there is a code on some garage doors that lets you bypass the rolling code, but like I said, haven't got it to work myself.

It's the first thing I tried when I got a new garage door opener. My old one always opened during thunderstorms.

If you find a way, I'm all ears.

Agreed.

It was awesome for years, but darn technology is always evolving.

I've had no problems programming Homelink to our Garage door opener on my I35, my wife's Murano & my Fathers VW Routan. And yes our garage door opener has rolling code. With mine & my wife's cars I even programmed the Homelink to my Mother In Laws brand new garage door opener with rolling code last fall. Are you sure you are following the instructions for programming a door with rolling code? You don't just hold up the garage door remote to the Homelink.

Don't you usually have to press a button (usually on top) on the opener housing itself these days to put em in program mode?

If 5th gen homelink allows rolling codes I need to figure out how to swap that to my 4th gen.

I believe 98+ (maybe mid 97) are compatible with rolling codes, indicated by a little house around the led on the visor.

That's what I read a few years ago, never had any luck getting either one (with or without the little house) to work on my garage doors. Haven't really bothered looking into it since.

Well everything up until when the home link communicated and learns the motor code is smooth, it learns the remote just fine, just won't communicate with the head unit. I have a genie intellicode

I also had no problems programming my old 97 I30 to my garage door with rolling code. Are you sure you're following the instructions for programming Homelink to an opener with rolling code? There are more steps when programming door openers with rolling code.

So, what are the extra steps. I've tried many times, followed directions carefully, no luck so far.

Thanks.

Well, I almost followed them carefully. Seems after programming, you need to push the learn button on the garage door opener, then press (actually press and hold briefly) the homelink button in the car.

That did it for me.

As usual, another piece of useful information gleaned from this thread.

Thanks.

If you have a brand new garage door opener, it won't work. The homelink protocol was upgraded a couple of years ago so our cars won't work with the new openers.

My garage door opener is six months old. Don't know if they have changed things since then, but happy that the solution in the owner's manual worked for me.

Now, if only I could find an original garage door opener for my wife's door, I would also program that (she doesn't remember where it is, her '92 Honda having been programmed years ago).

Don't imagine there is a way to hold her car up to my visor to program my Homelink, LOL.

Make sure you hold down the two outer buttons for about 15 seconds, or till you see it flash to clear the memory. Mine wouldn't work with the remote because of the rolling code so I had to have someone hold the sync button on the back of the garage motor. Once I had someone hold the button down. I then held the homelink button (any of the 3) for about 10 seconds till it flashes and that was it.

Thanks, I am now good with my garage door, can't complain about wife's, she cannot find original opener. Will deal with that at a later date. My door is responding fine to signals from the Homelink button. Woopee!

You can buy replacement garage door openers. You can buy one from the opener manufacturer or from other places.

There is a company called Carper that makes openers for many different openers, but not all. They are less expensive than the ones made by the opener manufacturer and they are a quality product.

You can also get a replacement garage door opener from Home Depot or Lowes. When I had my 97 SE I went to a junk yard and got a visor from a Maxima with homelink and swapped out the visors. Later for a friends 95 car we got another visor, cut his open and put the homelink mechanicals into his visor. Both methods worked well with no problems.
