Can you put 225's on stock 16" wheels??

Does anyone know why the stock 16" wheels come with 215/55/16 instead of 225/55/16? I know the rim depth is 6.5" and was wondering if there is a limit to how wide of a tire you can put on them.

Hey, the answer is yes, I did it on my ex Max 98SE, and it fitted well on the Nissan oem 16", the handling was way much better, I drove it for 2 year with the 225/50/16 and there was no way I would have go back with the 215.

Cheers

AA

I just got off the phone with Michelin and they said that Nissan lists both the 225/55/16 and 225/50/16 as direct replacements for the stock 16" tires.

Thanks for all your feedback.
