anyone notice this about their automagic?

does anyone notice that their automagic does not lock the torque converter until the tranny is warmed up? to notice this do 60 mph first thing in the morning and watch your rpm's, they should be about 2200. after the tranny warms up 60mph is 2000 rpm's. I notice this at any speed, until the tranny warms up the rpm's are slightly higher at any given speed(in 4th gear) I think it is weird, or maybe something is wrong, it has been like this since i bought the car. BTW i just recieved the auto tranny tsb(another story in itself) any input would be helpful

Yup. Its nissan programing. DO NOT WORRY. Every auto nissan is set to do that. My moms 98 se altima did it, her 2k1 altima, and my 93 Maxima gxe. I know exactly what you mean. Mine takes quite a while to lock up on a cold day....like 15 mins of driving.

My 85 300zx and 86 200sx wouldn't even shift into 4th (overdrive) until it was warmed up! I agree with Mike S. this is a normal Nissan function.

it's so that the revs stay slightly higher so that the engine warms up faster. My Accord V6 does the same thing.

thanx

i was seriously starting to think that it might have been a bad sensor or something. I'm glad that this is a feature and not a "feature" about the tranny's

I noticed this too. Never thought anything of it, just figured because it was cold. Guess I was right
