New Serpintine Belt Squeal...

Just replaced the Alternator on my 2001 Nissan Maxima. Noticed there was a lot of cracks on the belt so I decided to replace that also. The new one I installed is a Dayco after installation I started the car and it was squealing like crazy. At first I thought it may be a tension issue. I sprayed the belt with water while the vehicle was running and the noise went away. Next I eyeballed the alignment of all of my pulleys, doesn't seem to be misaligned [Dont have any laser pointers] if it is misaligned its less than a 1".

This is the 3.0L for anyone that specializes in Nissan vehicles.

Thanks!

That did the trick no more noise. Thank you maxipower for the help. I was nervous about over tightening the belt.

How did you tighten it? I am having the same problem, I replaced both belts and still have that sound Only when turning on the car.

Loosened the locking nut on the tensioner and then tightened the adjuster. I only replaced the Alternator belt not the P/S.

Not for nothing but on my 03 GLE 163k miles I thought it was the belt loose and kept tightening it which would make it go away temporarily but it would come back. Is it only when climate control is on? Does it disappear at higher revs? If so your AC clutch could be going and you may need to replace compressor. Got a new one for 120 and installed it and no more squeal for me. Just thought to chime in.

when my AC is off and i turn the engine on, sometimes depending atmosphere temps, i get the belt squeal for a bit and then it goes away.

when my car is on, and i turn on AC, the belt squeals when im accelerating (but not decelerating) at 900 to 2000 RPM and then goes away until i return to that state again.

thoughts? belt loose in my case?

Belt sounds loose to me. I just replaced my belt on my 2002 maxima. It squealed at initial starts, and had a noise in the low RPM range. I went ahead and applied tension to it really good, no more noise from the belt. I never had noise from this car before either.
