are the rear brake calpiers all the same?
My rear calipers are rusted out fairly bad, i dont really want deal with possible issues.
There is a 5th gen max at a wrecker. Am i safe to say that i can pull the calipers off for a straight swap?
If not, what identifiers are i looking for to see if they match?
Thanks

On my 2k it's a normal type rear caliper. You just need a pair of plyers to push the piston it. On my 03s they are the type you have to turn with a key and press in at the same time. Makes it a pain to work on
OP, don't take my word for the application as I pulled it from the catalog that at times can be in error.
Also, according to the previous post, 2000 with push in pistons and our 2000 with screw in pistons, looks as though the changeover was 2000, so just get the caliper that's on your car, L/R, screw in or push in, F/R.

All 94(SE)-03(all) calipers are the same, the brackets changed in 02 as did the pads, but if your bracketry and pads are in good shape, go ahead and change calipers from any of those model years.
All should have the twist in ebrake/parking function. Some retail auto stores sell the non twisting in type, but then you will not have a functioning parking brake.

Yes. There's also a tag on the inside frame of drivers door which shows the year and month of manufacture date (if they are still there).
I believe you can get a dealer parts department to give you the manufacture date to the specific rear caliper.

The 10th character in the VIN gives the model year on all modern 17 digit VINs. It was letters up through 2000 and numbers from 2001 through 09. Y= 2000 , 1= 2001 , 2=2002 and so on through 2009.
Knowing this makes it a lot easier than punching the entire VIN into a decoder every time.
The VIN sticker on the door jam gives the production date but that's not necessarily the model year.

No, it isn't. For the 2k Maxima the rear calipers were changed sometime halfway through production. If you get the wrong parts they won't line up or install correctly. Ask me how I know...
Case in point which was my fist point on my first post here was: all 95-03 Maxima's have a twist in rear caliper for the parking brake.
I guess 2k is a bastard child year for rear brakes just like the 02/3 Maxima ECU.
And up front I have 04 Maxima rotors with 08 EVO IX Calipers.
Talk about a FrankenBrake set-up over here.
