P0340 Camshaft Position sensor > NHTSA Campaign # 03V455000 > Dealer says 'no'.
My 2003 Maxima with 105k has been stalling at speed. Dangerous.
I get SES or 'Check Engine' light. OBD 2 shows P0340 error code.
My research (quick google searches) says that is the camshaft position sensor error code.
Also, my symptoms seem to be consistent with the camshaft position sensor.
Also, NHTSA Campaign ID says the dealer will replace the crank position sensors, the camashaft position sensors and in some cases the variable timing control sensors.
I called the local dealer, Autonation Nissan Clearwater. I was told my car was not eligible.
Can anyone tell me what the deal is; why my car may not be eligible?
Has anyone been able to 'talk the dealer, or Nissan' into fixing this after initially being told their care was not eligible?
Thanks in advance for any response.

Dealers are only liars. Never believe a word they say. And that's not just nissan...
I had a volvo come to me with a bad fuel pump. Looked it up and sure enough there was a recall for fire hazard. Owner called local dealer and they flat out said no such recall existed. I had him call volvo and they weren't too happy with that dealer. The ******..dealer, then immediately did the work

As much as I would have liked to have gotten free OEM parts and free labor at the stealership, I just bought the parts (both cam sensors) at the local parts store, and had my regular mechanic install them. Both were about $161 at the parts store and my mechanic charged me only $20 for the labor.

20 mins for the labor is not bad at all. It's a 20 min job tops your mechanic probably had it done in 5. Those aftermarket sensors are iffy. If you ever have the code pop up buy a used oem or bite the bullet and buy new. But oem all the way

Aftermarket camshaft position sensors? Any OEM equivalent?
Yes, I have seen some negative reviews of the aftermarket cam position sensors. Brings me to another question;
When I changed my coils, there was a brand that was 'equal to' the OEM coils. It is the same coil, manufactured in the same plant, supposedly just with different packaging.
I had hoped to find an aftermarket equivalent to OEM cam position sensors. I am pretty sure it does not exist since I did not find it. Any insight anyone?

Even if you bought a whole set of used coils it's cheaper than one new one.

Junkyard for most everything. There's no reason to buy hardly anything new when it's expensive (except moving parts if you want longevity). I can walk out with multiple mafs/cam/crank sensors for free. I bet I can even fit in some coil packs LOL.

Don't forget that it doesn't matter what car it's in if it's a 3.5. 6th gen maxis are showing up more frequently, now, and then you have the pathfinders, too (maybe some M35s floating around). Dumb dumbs take the 5.5 motors which are probably trashed and leave the 6th gens lol.

Recalls are only good for 15 years from the day they were issued. O
