200k i30 Suspension Newbie

2001 i30 w/ 208k

Okay guys, our backup vehicle, our 01 i30 with 208,000 miles on it is bouncing around very badly in the front.

I know that you guys are used to babying your Maximas, but my question is about keeping this old lady running with a minimal of costs, maybe for another 50k or so.

I'm a newbie with this kind of stuff, but I've seen videos about replacing the front struts as a complete unit. Is this correct? Just a matter of some bolts around the brakes and bolts above the hood?

Does this seem like a reasonable option as a "Band-Aid" to keep it running? What parts would I need?

I've done brake work, but no suspension work. Do-able?

Thanks!!

Actually pretty easy. You can purchase the entire strut/spring assembly from Rock Auto @ $80 each side, or used parts www.car-part.com.
Rather than writing a procedure:
Just be cautious of the ABS wiring.

Thanks! So, should I go with the Monroe QuickStrut? Seems like the path to go. A commenter with an 01 maxima commented that the tabs were upside down. Would this be a concern?

Go to RockAuto and check the less expensive units @ $80 each+shipping.

If you plan on keeping the car for another 50K miles, Quick Struts are the way to go. I have them on my I35. No issues with fitment. Just make sure the bottom coil is oriented the same direction as the original, same with the top bearing plate with the studs sticking out.
