New 16 Maxima SL door question

Hello,
I have a new Black on Black 16 Maxima SL..
1 quick question, The drivers side door needs to be really slammed in order for it to close all the way.. If I don't slam it then it popped out a little bit..
I am just use to closing a car door, not slamming it.
The dealer said it is "normal" since the car is so much tighter.

Is this normal?

It's hard to know exactly what really slammed is to you, it may be normal to me. I've owned BMWs, Audis, and Acuras, I don't have to slam the door noticeably harder than any of those. The amount of force it takes to close the driver side and passenger side doors is about the same so if your driver side takes a lot more force, the gaps are probably off.

If you still aren't sure, I would go to the lot and close the doors on the Maximas they have there and see if it is any different than yours.

Quick test crack or move the window down just enough that it doesn't touch any of
The window seal at the top of door frame. Now try closing the door. My guess the door will close with less force then with the window all the way closed.

I agree with comment above...try another Maxima on the lot and see how the door operates.

I just took it to the nissan dealer, the service rep agreed it wasn't normal..
He said take it to the body shop tomorrow and have them adjust the metal part by the door frame..
However maybe the 16 Maximas are more air tight this is normal?

He did say he is worried if they adjust it, the door might have a small gap that it will leak...

He also did say try to open the window just a crack as the above poster said.. and it does close a lot better.

What would you do?

Do what a poster said above and try the doors of other cars at the dealership.
You shouldn't have to open the window to shut the door without slamming it.
Do the other three doors on the car need to be slammed to close, or do they close normally?

Other doors seem better than the driver side door but not 100% that I am use to.

I am scared if they "adjust" the door than other issues will come about from it.
example, wind sound, water will come in, rattle sounds, etc...

I would go ahead and have them adjust it. If it causes any issues, it will be obvious as soon as you drive it (you can ask them to run some water over the door frame to see if it leaks).

If there is an obvious difference between your door and the other Maximas on the lot and their fix either A. Doesn't resolve it or B. Causes new issues, I would tell the dealership you want a new one. How many miles have you put on it?
