replace the dampner or go solid underdrive

if i replace the dampner, i'm guessing i'm gonna have to go new after market or nissan new OEM. used is just gonna have the same dry rotted rubber dampner. i bet OEM new is at least $75 USD, iv'e seen cheap under drives for the same price but, that could be asking for trouble. a quality name brand under drive is probably what $125. a little hard to steer from what i read. my alternator is upgraded, just wouldn't want to hurt the A/C compressor. no rubber to fail, possibly more vibrations. if the under drive is extreme enough, one might need a different belt. pros vs cons.

i wonder if the real (expensive) answer is to try both?

Stock chinesium is 30 on ebay last I saw. It's not a damper, it's just worthless rubber for belt noises or they were too lazy to change the design. If you're 3.5, then get the 2J racing UDP.

15 year old car at minimum, I'd guess it's not going to matter either way, but if you are concerned about the life of the accessory systems, then don't underdrive. If saving money is important, I'd suggest you not push parts to early failure in this way. for maybe 3-5 HP if you are lucky.

Thanks for the input guys! i picked up a cheapy for $31 and change. Curious why the 2J racing UDP wouldn't work fora 3.0 they are practically the same engine.
