Will it work

I was wanting to know if a engine and transmission out of a 1997 GXE will work in my 2000 SE. Both vehicles are manual transmissions? Thank you in advance

Yes, you'll have to strip the motor down to transfer over the 2000 components but the block, heads, timing are the same.

there are small differences that doesn't matter overall but the motor can work in your car.

There is one difference that doesn't matter off of the top of my head, it's in the coolant log but you are able to use the 97 coolant log on your 2000 chassis.

Is there anything that is absolutely crucial that needs to be swapped over/ or is there any differences that won’t be noticeable.

The upper manifold and everything associated with it. You'll be downgrading and leaving HP on the table otherwise.
