Key Fob Issue on my '02 GLE

Occasionally when my car sits in my garage overnight my fob will initially not function at all the next day. I can manually unlock the door with the key, start the car without any problem, and then mysteriously the fob works the rest of the day. I drive to work and park it, and after my 10 hour shift go out and the fob works as it should. It only seems to be happening when the car sits overnight in my garage, and it doesn't happen every time. Any thoughts?

I thought that at first, but I have 3 fobs and they are all acting the same. Sorry, meant to put that in the original post.

Reprogram the fobs.

Going to try that in the morning, and also going to replace the batteries in all 3 just as a precaution.

So I was bored and can't sleep so I went to reprogram my 3 fobs. I got in the car, shut the door, and pushed the door lock button on the driver's side door. It did not respond. I had to push it several times before it would lock. Once it did I went ahead and tried to reprogram the fobs and got 2 of them done successfully. The third one would not program, and it is very possible the battery is dead in it. So what would cause the actual door lock/unlock button on the door to not respond? Oh, and once I did get it to lock/unlock it continued to work without fail.

The driver (master) window switch might be toast. When that goes, the whole system gets buggy.

Water likes to drip directly onto the master switch. These fail. Common problem.

So I reprogrammed the fobs, no change. I also noticed that when using the key to unlock the door sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get it to unlock. I have a couple of fobs ordered. They were just a little more than buying new batteries for the old ones. I'm also thinking I'll order a new used switch panel and see if that helps.

Sounds good. eBay for the master switch or if you live near a yard and can pull one yourself you'll save even more.

So, while it appears the new key fobs have solved the issue, I had already ordered a new window/door lock switch just in case so I am going to go ahead and install it. The only concern I have is that the original switch had "auto" for both front windows, and I could not find a replacement that did. The switch I ordered is brand new aftermarket, but only the driver's side window has the auto feature. I'm hoping this doesn't really matter as far as functionality of all the components working. I really don't care about the auto feature on the passenger side window since it is very rare that anyone rides with me anyways...LOL. I will have it put back in the car in a few minutes and we shall see. :-)

The new aftermarket switch DID NOT work. It would not do anything at all. No windows, no door lock, even the backlighting would not come on. The plugs and pins on the plugs all look the same, but I guess the internal works are not. So old switch is put back in, and everything is working fine. Thanks User 1 for your help.
