I had originally installed a catback system that I got on eBay and installed an aftermarket G35 sedan replacement muffler on it to quiet it down. I didn't like how it sounded, too raspy and it was all 2.25" pipe even though the listing said 2.5". on top of that it started rattling badly in the rear. I went with 2.5" AP Xlerator XS0426 for the resonator and AP Xlerator Big Max Turbo muffler 690503 2.5". the 2.5" exhaust starts at the Warpspeed Y pipe so no more gutted cat.
along with that is the 4th gen VQ30DE exhaust manifolds and Warpspeed Y pipe. I also used 2 90 degree mandrel bends before the axle. I think I have enough space for another resonator, I might add one just to see how the sound changes. the tip is nothing fancy and the guy tucked the muffler a bit forward and put an extension pipe on it. I also have a new tip on the way.
going to 2.5" from 2.25" really made a noticeable difference in top end and low end power. the low end power has helped a lot for stop and go around town.
also pretty quiet from inside, not much drone. modified stock air box makes more noise than the exhaust now.
Got any codes? I thought I borked mine yesterday. Washed the engine for the first time with degreaser and a garden hose. Fired right up and ran for about 5 min then died. Crank but no start after that. Threw cam codes. Runs fine now that it's all dry. That's why I hate washing engines! Plus the degreasers I used seriously tarnished my brand new shiny strut brace. Not sure what happened there. By the way, the Megan strut brace clears just fine. I think I need to post that on the other thread I started.
no codes yet. I don't see any oil in 1,2,4,5 or 6. I didn't feel like pulling off the intake manifold to get to #3 I even jumped the gun and ordered a set of those mitzone aluminum valve covers, only $92.44 with shipping.
months ago I had a misfire so I got new iridium plugs and 6 coils that came in Nissan box's. that time around I had oil in plug #2, so I just changed all the plugs and just the rear coils along with cleaning plug tube #2.
I'm guessing this time around a front coil is bad since they are older. I'm about to change the front 3 with the other 3 Nissan coils I didn't install when I did the back 3. although I would rather find the bad coil and keep good ones as spares. but I'll just buy a set of 3 and have them for when I need them.
I wonder if people selling non OEM coils would go this far and make fake Nissan box's?
