Rear main seal leak.
Most likely the “half moon seal” not the RMS but either way, kind of a PITA. Trans has to be dropped which means axles have to come out, which means taking the brakes off and disconnecting the tierod end, upper oil pan needs to come off which means so does the exhaust Y pipe. Pretty involved, id say like a solid 8/10 on the PITA scale. If you are a competent mechanic its very doable, just an absolute “fml” type of job. Almost not worth doing in my opinion, your halfway to a 09-14’ motor swap at that point.
I hate using stop leak liquids, but my Silverado has had a rear main leak for 10+ years and there's no way in hell i'm dropping the trans and transfer box over just that. I've done BlueDevil oil stop leak in the engine oil every 2 years and it's been the fix. Stuff works as long as it's the seal itself and not physical scoring in the surrounding metal or something. Especially if your car is a beater, it's an option to try. Cuz otherwise as said you're halfway deep into a newer motor swap anyways lol
Thanks for the tip. Iv'e tried that prior to viewing your reply. Quite a coincidence! So far leak seems to be diminishing. Guess it needs more driving time. Thinking of using "Bars Leak" on next oil change if Blue Devil fails. Regardless not going to attempt Tranny Drop.
Thanks for the info..............

The RMS cannot be replaced without removing the trans. I replaced the rear main seal and upper oil pan seal at the same time without removing the oil pan.

I'll put all my money on the Upper Oil pan Half moon seals as stated in post #2....Nissan RMS are Legends and known for not leaking! Have fun! Both are a lot of small task but not extremely difficult!
Agreed. In 25 years of dealing with these cars ive never seen a leaking rear main.
