Transmission output sensor craziness (replaced 4 times)

Hello,

So my transmission keeps slipping and threw a code for the transmission output sensor/speed sensor. I replaced it several times and every time, a few weeks later or a few days later, the problem is back again. What do you guys think the issue is, because it certainly isn't the output sensor anymore, even though it's behaving just like it and keeps throwing codes for it. Bad ECU, bad TCM, flaky wiring? Is it also possible that the sensor itself actually is bad again due to the TCM or ECU keeps taking it out? I've tried different brands of transmission output sensors as well. Looking for any ideas, thanks!

Are you saying there's two transmission output sensors? The one I'm talking about is on the front driver-side tucked under the wheel well.

They are both the same. Grab a pair from ebay and call it a day.

I have the 3.0L.

So if the revolution sensor is bad, it will throw the same code for the speed sensor?

Thanks!

My car has been out of commission since January, finally got around to fixing it. After cleaning up the connections, replacing the sensor and the transmission control unit, still throwing the P0720 code. I replaced all three wires from the VSS to the trans controller and the problem is fixed for good now.

The 2001 Maxima by the way does not have the mechanical speed sensor, only the electric one.
