My tachometer stopped working. Everything else in the instrument cluster works as it should, but the tachometer needle doesn’t budge. No OBD codes, either.

I checked the connections and wires leading to the instrument cluster and they look fine. Also, I use a scanner connected to the OBD-II port while driving and the ECU is getting RPM information, so the problem is not between the transmission and the ECU. So must be between the ECU and the instrument cluster.

Thoughts on tracking down the problem?

 

i think I heard before that a bad crank position sensor can cause the tach not to work and will also cause you to have a hard time starting the engine.
