Weird smell coming from engine after i changed.....

Hey fellas,

i changed my ignition coils and spark plugs today and noticed an immediate difference. It definately rides alot smoother than before and the "pingin" noise has gone away. But i'm concerned cause there is an unusual smell coming from the engine compartment. Is this normal or is something vital burning up???? Maybe its my imagination but i'm alittle concerned.

any and all input is appreciated!!

thanks

Could you tell me what numbers are printed on your coils and who is the manufacturer? Mine were supposingly replaced by the dealer but the car is still pinging. Mine is manufactured by Hanshin and has "1905" printed on the side in white.

can i see the numbers if they are on the car already?? I know they are Hanshin, they are on the car already but where would i find the numbers??

is there a particular order in which they should be installed? I know the front 3 are different then the back 3 but other than that is there a particular order??

thanks

Doesn't matter which order you install them, the ECU is the one who controls which one fires at what time. The numbers are printed on the side of the rectangular piece and can be seen without pulling the coil out.

Can you explain what that pinging noise is? Sometimes when I am in either 3rd or 2nd gear, and give it some gas (but no downshifts) I hear like a rattling/pinging sound from the engine. It doesn't do that a lot but I hear it sometimes.
