I will admit the 2002 max has an edge on the TLS... stock vs stock. But no where anyone can say the max can KILL the TLS, or even say the TLS can KILL the max. They are very close.

Where do you live? I live in the southwest Suburbs, Hinsdale....We should meet up one day your car looks tight. I went to a meet with a bunch of Acura guys up in Schaumburg over the summer. It was at Pizzeria Uno, there were a ton of tl-s and cl-s up there. I was wondering if you were there?

yea..he's an auto...and a factory freak auto at that...he can hang with me pretty well.....but I'm a 5-speed....I ran a fully modded CL-S at the track multiple times...that older guy with the red CL-S and beat him every time by two or three tenths. I wouldn't say a race between you and him wouldn't be fair...you'd be impressed with his maxima. I'll run ya

Red CLS.. yea thats Johns. His car isnt working right. Some some odd reason hes not getting the same dyno numbers as me and another CLS owner. If you are running 14 flat, then **** im out. So im not going to run with you. I know my limits. But still i dont think you can KILL my car. Beat, perhaps.

Yea I was up at that meet, i had the black TLS with the system in my trunk. I didnt have the bodykit on at that time. I didnt have my engine mods at that time either. Just an intake.

i will run with the 99 auto max then. I was just saying he wont KILL me.

hey CrazyAcura,

Have you dynoed your car at all or taken it to the track? I know the Comptech Headers give huge gains on the J32A2 engine. I'd think you could hit mid-14's at least with the headers + your other mods too. Beware Maxima owners

Ever heard of a S2000? How about a RSX Type-R?(JDM version).

I can't help but reply to a few of your ignorant comments. A 6spd CL-S will in no way "kill" a 6spd max from a dead stop or on the highway, infact there is no dow't in my mind that a 6spd max will own a 6spd CL-S at any speed. Does the word Torque meen anthing to you? 6spd max's are putting down 220-225 FWTQ(stock). Auto max's are making in the ball park of (215 FWTQ). This translates into nissan underating the 2K2 maxima, in reality the max is making approx. 280 Crank TQ. Now the CL-S will probably put down less then 200 FWTQ, probably more in the range of 190. This my friend will allow the max to have a nice advantage over a CL-S 6spd from the launch. How about the extra 200 LB's the CL-S is carrying around? Again this will give a nice advantage to the max.

I don't know how good the gearing is on the 6spd CL-S but the gearing for the 2K2 is optimal seeing that the HP and TQ curve is so flat. A 5spd would have worked just fine.

the max looks like a bus
I have never seen any bus that is even remotly close to looking like a 2K2 maxima. Next up, the CD on a 02 max is a very repectable .31(on the SE). Please let me know what the CD is on the 2K2 CL-S. I highly dow't it is much better, probably at best .30. A CD of .01 difference will have very little effect on a highway race or even top speed for that matter. Please let me know the CD for teh CL-S, I am dieing to hear it!

Well i can my car stock last year, and got a 15.1... as of now, with the same mods i have, my buddy in a cls ran a 14.2 at union grove WI. Yes i have dynoed, im at 227hp, and 212lbs torque. So I hope to be near low 14s this spring when the track opens up.

What we need is a 2002 max at union grove to run times. Just to see.

I never said the auto max would kill you....I think it'd be a pretty good race....he can run right next to an E36 AUTO M3 from a roll...that ain't half bad....he did beat a STOCK TL-S pretty bad though....it should have been closer...but it wasn't...it was SAD for the TL-S....

I remember your car...you had the custom sub in the trunk with like a star like emblem right? There were some nice rides up there, i didnt drive my car that day. Anyways where do you live in Chicagoland?

Crazy Acura... remember me I replied to your post in the upper midwest forum. Myself, BriGuyMax, and Max2000JP are meeting up on saturday afternoon to dyno at APG Performance. Where that is, I have no clue, but its in Chicagoland. You seem like a pretty decent dude and if you wanna get in some runs with maximas of various levels of modifications that would be cool. I raced that guy John at US41 in Indiana last month. I ran a 14.6 to his 14.68... he said his trap speeds were way down, like 3 mph. Mine were down about 1.5. So we were both running slower than normal. He's a nice guy, and its actually really cool to see an older gentleman into modding a car, especially a nice import.

Anyway I'm talking to briguymax right now its cool if you wanna meet up with us. Let us know.

Thats sounds cool. I live near APG, its right off of irving park road. So all of you guys are doing dyno runs? I might come by and if i have time i might do a run, but i just had my car dynoed last week at APG. Im really not into racing as much as all of you guys. I mean i plan on putting some heavy chrome 19s soon. So no racing for me.


Yea johns a cool guy, hes always finding ways to mod his car. Thanks to him i have a front and rear tie bars custom made that fit.

But yea if i dont see you guys at APG, then i plan to go to the track at least twice this year just to see my numbers.

stock for stock, I think a 2k2 auto max would be a much better comparison--but if your friend ran 14.2 in a CL-S with the same mods you have, you vs. a 2k2 6 sp. max would be a great race, keep us posted

I might ran my friends TL-S soon, if he will want too. I kept up pretty good with him in 2000 SE 5-speed. So with 2002 Maxima, I should do better.

HA! I knew it, the max was more aero dynamic then the CL-S . For some reason people think the max is not very aero dynamic but in reality it is pretty damn good.

Good kill. I baged a tl-s a while back in my 2000 auto. The tl-s was definately faster, but I killed him in the turns (a combination of S-03 tires and *****). The tl-s pulled on me hard. If there had been straight open road I would have gotten burned but between trafic and lots of turns he just couldn't keep up. The Ac tl-s is a sick car but its not worth the $$$.

Maybe I didn't go far enough back in this thread (oh well) but,

does anyone want to forecast the results of a comparison between the 2k2 Max SE 6sp vs the 2003 TL-S 6sp? (Maybe Honda should make it interesting and increase the J32A2's displacement to 3.5L )

well my guess is... that when the RL gets the v8 engine.. then they have to put the v6 3.5 liter engine somewhere... so im guessing..


Also its still not 100% that the TLS is getting the 6-speed.

If the CL-S is getting the 6sp tranny, smart money says that it will also be avail for the TL-S. (Though the CLS will probably get it first; kinda like the J32A2 coming out in the CL a year before the TL).

Well the CLS has it now... it will be at the dealers in a week or so.

Honestly i think it would be dumb to put it in the TLS, the reason i think they put it in the CLS was cuz the sales were slow with just an auto... so if they put it in the TLS, that would kill the sales of the CLS again. Wouldnt make sense to me.

Ok just wanted to say... a TLS owner with just headers and exhaust, ran a 14.2 over the weekend. He even has stock intake... just wanted to say that. Cant wait to take my car to the track!
