How hard is it to put on the 01 AE ground effects on a 00?

How hard and about how much would it be to put on the 01 AE ground effects on a 00 maxima? My girlfriend really likes the ground effects but I think it would cost too much for her to sell her 00 for an 01-02 just for this one upgrade.

Thanks for any help

John

I've heard it can be moderately difficult. There are a few people whom have the AE kit on their Max. The price is close to $1k. A search would yield better results on the AE kit.

Thanks for the reply, I don't think it is worth a 1,000 for her to do. I will call Nissan for fun just to see how much the ground effects are.

Thanks

I guarantee it's at least $1000.
I called Courtesy Nissan, and with the Maxima.org discount, the "side-skirts", ALONE, (like on the 2k2) were $350 per side. WOW!

I got the kit for $1000 from my local Nissan dealer. The kit is worth the money because it is already painted and looks great. I did not install the kit myself because it is not an easy install. The Stillen kit looks good also but has a more rounded look and requires painting. It really depends on the look that you want.

I found that Nissan did not want to do the install. I found a custom auto paint and body shop to install the kit.

If I recall correctly

I thought you had mentioned the body shop had a really tough time with the install, it took them quite a long time. Either way I love the AE kit, and I am looking around for pricing and a shop to do the install.

Kratz, what are your impressions of the kit now that you have had it for awhile?

Blackgums: You recall correctly...impressive...
The shop had the car all day and the installer said that this kit took longer to install than he thought it would. I recall someone on this org mentioning that Nissan techs were having trouble installing the kits on the 20th Anniversary Edition cars(the cars shipped from the factory without the kit and the kit was installed at the dealerships). That may be why Nissan was not interested(they actually told me that). After living with the kit for a few months now I must say that I can't imagine having this car without it now. The car just looks better from any angle to me.

maxman00: The kit requires drilling and comes with templates which show where to drill the holes in the body. If you search the org on "body kits" you will find a post by Maximum Velocity where he talks about the difficulty he had installing the kit. I think it took him 3 hours just to hang the front lip.

See my homepage for pics of AE kit.

just to confirm, with ANY bodykit out there, the Nissan front-end mask will not fit. So for my car, if I ever want to think of getting a bodykit, I would have to repaint the whole front first...damn

But you can get the Xpel clear bra that is precut to fit the AE front end which includes the front lip. It is a standard part number at Xpel and I have it sitting here waiting for the install soon.

Yes, it's a pretty tough install. The templates are off, and just by a hair in some places. Like jkratzer has said, Nissan doesn't want to do it, cause the dealers where I live are the ones that install it themselves. It comes from Japan without the kit and the dealer puts it on. I've seen a bunch of AEs in the garage area without the kit on and that what one of the owners of a dealership said (he's a family friend, so he's reputable). It took me 5 hours to do the front lip, just so that I could get everything right and without drilling an oversided hole in my nearly $30,000 car. Dry fitting and paitence were really key to doing this project. So basically if you have those then you're all set, but you have to get very creative to install it. I even used toothpaste in some places as markers. I had to do R&D as I went along. But 2 weekends (4 days) later, and I'm sure over 15 hours of work, it was done. So it's really up to you whether you want to do the install yourself. It's just really time consuming. The kit is about 1100 and does come prepainted. It really adds to the car. Check out my webpage to the left if you're interested in pics. Good luck if you do decide to get the AE kit!
