Emergency ~!!!

hey wassup guys. been following this site for a while but never registered.

ANYWAYS, here's the deal everyone, i need help.
i live in Queens, NY and i'm going to get the 2002 Maxima SE 6-speed fully loaded except navigation for 28,200.
the invoice price on the car is 27,587 so i would like to know if i'm getting ripped off here.

another thing is that i'm getting my car from Star Nissan in bayside. from what i've read, they're ********s, and rip people off. so should i stay with it, or go to another dealer like koeppel??

this is my first car, and i really do not want to bring it back and forth, and end up getting ripped off.

i am suppose to pick up this car on friday at 4 pm so your input would be greatly appreciated.

i don't know what others are paying, so to me, it seems like a good deal.

but everyones thoughts and input will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Sorry I can't help you with price, but... Can't hurt to check out the other dealer anyway. In fact, do it. See what price they offer you... if nothing else it might make you feel better about the other dealer. Another thing is if you can't take someone who's good at negotiating, then just take a friend along for moral support. Tell them to drag your a$$ out if they feel you're getting ripped off. Once you "want" the car, you're pretty much screwed. You need someone who's more distant to tell you to leave and come back tomorrow. Sales guys have been trained and do this day in and day out and they know how to psyche people out! And if this is your first car, I guarantee you they can smell that!! There's no worse feeling than the excitement over your new car getting overpowered by the feeling you got screeeeewed.

Always remember: you don't have to sign or take the car.. there's lots of Maximas and deals out there.

anyway, that's my advice.. good luck!!

Go to EDMUNDS.COM and click on "NEW cars". Select the Maxima & click "price with options". Then select all of the options that the car has. Fully loaded - Navigation invoice is indeed $27,587. Edmunds says TMV (true market value) is $28,050. Look at the chart below! If they try to tag on "advertising costs" tell 'em: "NO WAY... the other dealers won't charge for it & I'm not paying it"

You can easily get edmund's TMV at any dealership, but you must have a printout. I got mine below edmunds, just a bit above invoice. Also make sure it has "All of the options" cause the dealer will try to sell you a car with less options & say "FULLY LOADED".

One dealer tried to do the same to me. I said "I need a GLE with every option & Navi" "Oh, I have 2" he said & brought one over. Well it was an SE. So I took it for a drive & then I noticed that it had no traction control. I told him that & he said, "oh well that's just throttle control... it's no big feature." So I quickly fled!

I got it elsewhere with little hassle & 3.9apr.

If you really like the car/color & it's hard to find at another dealer, just buy it. An extra $150 above invoice will get you in the car you want quicker!

Good luck

Re: Emergency ~!!!

you're getting ripped off. I got that same car for $1,500 less, not including the rebate (so $2,500 less overall). I'd guess, from my talks with car dealers lately, you should be able to get in that car for $26,500.

Go to another dealer , tell them the dealer you are getting and make them beat it. The worst they can say is no. Especially now that it is getting near the end of the month dealers are getting ansy to sell!

Shop around

Try shopping around, Koeppel i hear is good, what about Bay Ridge Nissan, or Biener, no harm in shopping around, the only thing that sucks is you have to trek out to all these places to get a real price from the dealer.
good luck

Yeah, I got my '02 SE (base) for over $1000 under invoice with a $500 rebate at the time, so with a loaded SE, and more profits on all the options, plus $1000 rebate, you should be paying a lot less that that.

Hey, I got my Maxima about 7 mo ago and I walked in and out of the dealers 2 times the first day, next day they called me and asked me to come back. I went and hat to leave again. The third time I got it. I was so exited but did not show them that. plus I had phone #s of other dealers and I was calling 3 other dealer to chek prices while these gyus were next to me. It drove them crazy. Finally I got basic model 2001 Maxima for 19Gs. So my advice... have info about all possible dealers and show them you know there are other maximas out there

I had my salesman (he was at least 50 years old and overweight) do a mad dash across the parking lot to grab me when I was walking away to shop his price. I ended up buying from him after he came down $400. The sweat was dripping off his forehead and all over the sales contract.

Re: Emergency ~!!!

You should be able to get at least the invoice price
at this time of the year. Plus nissan is running
an advertised 0.9% financing. Remember that you should
get that financing based on your credit rating. as
long as you have a rating over 700, you qualify for
the 0.9%. Trust me as star nissan loves to scam people
that they have to purchase certain additional packages
to get this apr rate. that is all a lie. you dont
need to purchase anything for the low apr. i know
because i had a purchase for the 2001 max but as soon
as i met the financing guy, he pulled this scam on me
so i axed the deal and walked out. save yourself the
trouble and find out your credit rating first from
the salesman before you meet the finance guy. the
sale isnt complete until you finish with the finance
guy. dont be afraid to axe the deal if things arent
to your liking. There are tons of dealerships in NY.

Here is a great website to protect yourself. Good Luck

I paid $ 29,400. ALL AVAILABLE OPTIONS, WITH NAVIGATION. I even threatened to take the car back, when they called me 2 days later asking for 1,200.00 more down ! I live in San Diego now, but I graduated from Bayside HS in Queens ! Is the Diner still there when you get off the clearview going north on Northern Blvd ???

hey guys, thanks for all your help.

but i was deciding on 2 dealers, Star nissan and koeppel.

i finally bought the car on friday from koeppel thats why i haven't been replying. haha...so much fun driving that car.

i got a 2k2 Max SE everything except for sunroof wind deflector, and navigation for 27,700. i thought it was pretty good since it was below invoice. but it's great that i got that .9% interest rate.

one word of advice to all you who live in the queens area and are looking to buy a nissan, DO NOT GO TO STAR ~!!!

GO TO KOEPPEL ~!!!!

star ain't that good, they're sales people don't know jack, and they try to rip you off. funny thing i found out from my insurance guy, was that Star nissan is under 2 different managements for their 2 departments, one korean, and one u know...general i guess.
star is known for their bad service, so i didn't want to go there, but they said the treat the korean people well. and it's the general department that does bad. i thought that was the biggest bullsh*t ever. since i'm korean, but american born, i'm saying to myself, why is it that only korean people can get good service??? if that dealership is under one name, whether it's the korean department or not, don't they both benefit? i feel it's wrong for them to treat one type of people right, while they treat all others bad.

haha...this is making korean people sound messed up, but it really is. ANYWAYS, Koepell is a better dealer, higher rated than Star by the better business bureau, and if u check www.badbusinessbureau.com, u can see star has alot of complaints.

since i was treated so bad at star, i swore i would never reffer to that place to anyone ever again.

on the other hand, koeppel was very professional and were madd cool.

ask for my sales rep Patrick Guarino. he gave me a great deal, and is a madd nice guy.

oh...bayside diner is still there.

well thanks for all your input guys, i'm lovin my car, and the fact that i got it less than invoice. maybe not as cheap as some of u might have gotten it for, but way cheaper that what i was going to pay at star.
