Installed Cattman catback on 2K2

Broke down and paid to have it installed at the muffler shop. Its probably a good thing since the b-pipe rattled against the retaining brace. Washers weren't enough. Had to bend the brace and all is well.

The sound is mildly louder without being annoying. Minor droning between 2000-3000 RPM, but not bad at all. I'll have wav files and pictures tonight.

I was hoping for a better gain..probably 4 or 5 HP....if that. But it sure does look and sound SWEET.

Congrats, LeftCoast. But if the catback were engineered properly, it should not have rattled against the retaining brace.

Hmmmm. That makes me wonder if the Greddy EVO catback also tends to bang against the retaining brace . . .

That's a good point. I thought about the same thing. Granted it wasn't "laying" on top of the brace, but it was enough to bang on a good pothole. I didn't feel comfortable with it, so the muffler guy bent it for me.

Did he actually bend the brace or did he just bend the hanger?

I think Ethan had the same trouble with his Greddy. Its really not that big a deal. Although, I am glad I didn't try this on my own.

That's possible, LeftCoast. My custom catback also banged on the brace. But the tech was able to bend the hanger enough to get rid of the problem.

Ya, on a hard 1-2 shift my front wheels hop and I hear a banging noise . So where exactly is this brace? Is it the little metal "brace" that connects to the bottom of the car with 2 (I belive) 10mm nuts below the B-Pipe? If thats the problem I am going to fix it! Thanks for the help!

Actually its the "larger" black brace with the 8 10mm bolts. I completely removed the smaller brace with the 2 nuts. Just lift the entire assembly, let it fall and listen for the bang...

From the few pics that did make it on the site, the Cattman muffler looks great.

I eagerly await the AVI file, but I'd like some further clarification as to the brace/b-pipe issue. What effect does removing the brace have on driveability (ie, it's got to be there for a reason...)?

The braces are there for a reason, Sandman2K. But the reason doesn't have to do with driveability. It has to do with the potential of physical damage to your exhaust system and undercarriage if a break occurs in the system or a hanger lets go. If you want to get an idea of what I'm talking about, remove the braces and then pull the hanger attached to the resonator out if its rubber holder.

I hooked up with Left this evening. We met as he was gassing up and I was getting food.. ... It sounds nice. Not loud at all. I didnt get a chance to drive his car and compare it to my k AUTO, with the powertech. He will be posting soon, his muffler is hanging, and he is having contact with other components.. This leads me to believe that some work needs to be done on the cattman.. It looks STOCK. Unless you are a Maxima freak like most of us, you would never know it is Aftermarket. I will let Mike post and tell you his woes..... Damn Two awesome Maxxs in one parking lot, both RUMBLING !! ====== PRICELESS !!!

Well, I had a problem with the catback rattle because the muffler guy didn't torque down one of the rubber "holders" to the B-pipe. Seems to have solved the problem.

This link will only work for a little while...

I have a download limit..
