My baby is in pain! PLEASE HELP!!!

AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!! Not another knocking noise!

Ok, when I make sharp right turns (especially when there is a dip) I hear a knocking noise comming from the front right. It only happens when the car is moving. I'm 99% sure its not the cv unit, because I already went through the hell of fixing it recently. I was told it might be the bearing in the axle. Would that make sense? Thoughts anyone?

Thanks in advance. Any input is appreciated.

Hmmmm...sounds expensive. There's no way in hell I'll be able to do that myself. Am I hurting anything by leaving it like this for a while. It got really bad last night after drifting around some right turns.

if you are under 36K

then get it done free.

if you are over 36K, you might want to consider aftermarket suspension anyway.

I just got off the phone with nissan and they wont fix it because my car is a salvage (btw, I will have to fix my profile). I was looking at the instructions and my car, and I am now considering doing it myself. I'm not very technically inclined (all I've ever done is install an intake and change my oil), but I do have the tools and a friend to help. Is this something that someone without training can do?

Also, what exactly is making the noise anyway?! Am I hurting anything by driving like this?

Thanks agian TimW. You always have an answer to technical problems.

Lots of Maxima owners has had or have this problem. I have 24k miles and still have the problem. I'm just living with it. I took it in once already but the problem still exists. Just think of it as one of the many other problems Maximas have that us owners have to live with.

who me?

nah, I'm the great regurjitator, I just spew out what I've seen here.

If you arent technically inclined, then you should consider having someone do this. Working with springs and struts can be dangerous, both and disassembly and not getting it back together correctly.

I'm not really sure if just buying new struts will help. You may only need a strut perch.. I think Russ will know. You may want to PM him. He was the first to have this fixed. they ordered him an entirely new strut assembly.

Well, I jacked my car up and had a look with my car-obsessed neighbors (who were drinking beers and rebuiling the engine of an old truck at the time ). The bolts/nuts from the power steering swich bracket are hitting the mettle plate (at least one is) at the top of the spring when I turn hard or hit bumps while turning.

When I turned the wheel and felt the bolts, the back one was up against the plate and the closer one was so close to the plate that a buisness card barely slipped through. The problem is that it's not just the bolts. The nuts that are WELDED on are what's causing the problem.

So what so I do? File the edge of the nut down? Help.
