Advice on things to watch out for on 6th gen?

My friend is thinking about buying a 04 maxima. I myself have a 03, and the problems with it are mainly the hood/windshield chipping easily. I haven't had any rotor problems yet. Its overall a great car, and I just wanted to know what others think of the 6th gen. And what its main problems are. Just want to make sure there is nothing major wrong with it.....

Nah, all is well with them. I have a Uconn blue 04

I take it you went to Uconn? My wife graduated from there in 92, I have a room in my house that is painted white and blue with Uconn wall paper.

So pp haven't had any headaches with the new Max's? Do they still come with potenzas, b/c I know they aren't great on wet traction on my 5th gen.

On a side note, I graduated Uconn last year, great college.

There have been minor issues here and there, but they seemed to die down more recently. I bought mine in April and the only issue I have had is that my gas gauge had to be replaced.

They come with Goodyears Eagle RS-A's, the SL comes with Continentals.

I have been following the posts here on and off since last December when I heard about the new max coming out. I finally decided to post. We received our 04 in June on special order replacing our 98. I thought our 98 was fun to drive but the 04 is even more of a blast. My wife is concerned I will kill my self in it .... So far so good, no complaints. However, I have noticed the shimmy (between 40 -50) but it does not happen consistantly (or maybe I do not pay enough attention). Since it has not been that prevalent I have not pursued the issue. We took it for our first road trip from Vegas to Phoenix this weekend and it ran great. So Uconn, sounds like the most prevalent issue (from the threads on this board) is the shimmy. It is a fun ride, enjoy.

The shimmy is hit or miss, I have never experienced it... thank god. I am hoping to take my Max on a roadie from Phoenix to Vegas in November. That is a fun trip through the mountains.

Like I said I just might not be paying attention to/for the shimmy. When I have noticed it, it seems to happen when I take my foot of the gas (between 40 -50) and if I start accelerating it goes away. So I guess the cure is to just accelerate . I guess most the time I accelerate through this range and therefore do not notice.

Have fun driving to Vegas GMC. We went through Kingman, Wikieup, and Wickenburg. It was fun dropping down a gear or two and passing people in a flash. I had a friend with me so I did not want to get too aggressive and scare the guy. On a side note - We left Las Vegas and had just went over Hoover damn when a spirited bronze SL came up behind me. He passed me so we decided to follow behind him and stuck with him until Kingman. It was pretty cool (I thought) having two maximas shadowing each other passing everyone. The guy in the SL probably was saying "I wish this idiot would stop following me".
