Replacing ugly non Navi screen...
Replacing ugly non Navi screen...
Unfortunately I need my car NOW so don't have time to wait for a Maxi w/the Journey Package. Can an LCD screen be placed where that 80's PC screen w/the climate control goes? Doesn't necessarily have to be Navi but would be better. Thanks.

It keeps you from knowing the temerature on the climate controls, the radio station, the cd info, etc... pretty much makes you blind as far as heat/AC and music go.
Not worth the effort. That guys car looks cool when it is dark, in the pictures that are light, the relocated screen looks ghetto

sure it works, you just can't see the display. If you get rid of that screen, then you can't do anything that requires a display... well you can do it, but you can't see it.
In essance, the trip computer will work, but you will have no idea what it says

i'm currently in the prosses of moving the original screen to where the tape and cd player are. I put a 7" movie screen where the original one goes.I'm constructing a new middle peice (were the stock cd/tape deck was) to house the orange screen and my after market radio. W/o the ugly orage screen you can't see the the climate control settings and you can't navigate through the cars settings(feul econo, security settings and so on
Hopefully i'll be finished within the next two weeks and post some pics

A step by step would be great... Sounds like your deep into it on yours. I myself are anxiously awaiting your pics.
Thanks

It's pretty easy to take apart.
You take the panel where the shifter is off it just pulls off.( I have a 6 speed so I just unscrew the shift ****. on the auto I think there is a tab somewhere on the shifter you have to push)
once you have that panel off there are 2 screws holding the panel with the cd/tape deck remove the screws and just pull on the panel
now you have 2 more screws holding the panel with the screen housing take out the screws and pull the panel from the bottom up (the vents may separate from the panel don't freak they just clip into place)
the hardest part is taking the shifter oon the auto not 100% on how they come off
Hope this helps you

Thank you sir,
If you hear of the auto shifter **** removal procedure let me know. My plan is to tackle this job in the next few weeks. Just wanted to get as much info as possible. Thanks again for the words of wisdom/experience. I now have a good mental "visual" of the process. Dealer informed me they would perform the TSB but I'm sure they would only make matters worse.
I thought about actually leaving the orange screen yet installing a 7" widescreen where the tapedeck is... Please keep us posted on your "custom" dash/screen mod.
