Tires for the 6th gen max

Just wondering what is a good tire for the 6th gen maxima. I dont like tires that this maxima was delivered with. I have 33,000 left on tires but need insite on great replacements. Thanks to all for your input....

SE or SL? Whats your tire size? Try a search on Tirerack.com and list your options. That way you'll get some good responses from people who've used them. The RS-A's that came with my SE are garbage. I can't wait for them to wear out, yet I don't want to shell out the money for their replacements. lol

Why do you think that? I know that you don't usually get top of the line tires OEM, but garbage? They are a bit noisy and they slap the pavement cracks but they seem to hold the road well and they aren't bad about hydroplane. Maybe I've just lowered my standards after endruing the RE92s on my AE. Just curious.

BTW, I can give you some pointers on wearing them out early if you like. It is my specialty.

lol No I need to save money to pay for my home stereo habits.

Yeah they are a bit noisy. The treadwear (280) is quite low for an all season tire as far as I'm concerned. I'd expect that treadwear rating for a really high performance tire. I'm thinking that I'll get about 30-35,000km on them before they start to hydroplane badly from lack of tread. I should get more than that out of a set of tires. Even OEM ones.

These tires are OEM on the exclusive ultra high performance Chevy Cavalier. Yuck.

I run Michelin MXV4 Plus on my SL w/ 17" rims. Significant upgrade from the OEM Conti's that were on ours upon delivery.

**** SE with 245/45/18 tires Garbage is right. I was being nice saying I disliked them. One thing, these tires are only okay on sunny and dry days. So if anyone has a great tire to suggest to make this 2004 Maxima perform on the road the way it should. Need teeth and a bite in a tire.

Maxmann, can you be more specific regarding those improvements? I have an SL with Continentals and I like them. At first I didn’t because they felt loose, but after about 1000 miles, they fill tighter. It this time I would get another set when these wear out.

I guess we all rate our tires differently. We've been having heavy rain in my area the past few days, and I plowed through a 2-inch frog-strangler Friday night at 50 and 55 (which was way too fast for this kind of rain!) with no sign of hydro. And I've been really, really sensitive to hydro ever since I wadded up a BMW 540i in a downpour in Colorado a couple years ago.

Even though I blasted through pools of water 8 inches deep, I never felt any washout at all, and frankly that surprised me.

I agree the Goodyears are noisy on some kinds of pavement, and they thunk over sharp pavement breaks, but I really can't complain about traction in the wet or dry. I may not go back with them when they need replacement, but overall I personally think these are pretty good rubber.

That's funny that you liked the MXV4's better than the Conti's. My 5th gen Max came with Toyos, which I think are the worst tires on the planet. I immediately replaced them with Michelin MXV4 Plus, and I thought they were pretty good. My '04 came with Continentals, and I feel that they are superior to the Michelins in almost every aspect (ride, handling, quietness, and especially snow traction).

I just got a set of 235/40 19 dunlop 9000 ZR.
Man these tires are awesome! I must admit that the road noise is a little louder than those crappy RS-A's, but other than that these tires grip! The wet traction is so good that it scared me. I put 20,000 miles on the RS-A's and I had them rotated and balanced but they are in no way comprable to these dunlops. I don't expect to put more than 35,000 miles on this set due to the "soft" compostion of the tires but it is definitely well worth the money.

Thanks for that reply. I seem to have seen that continentals were good tires at tire rack. At $1000 to replace tires on my max, Im just looking for some teeth and a bite with my max!! Those goodyears really suck in the snow and the mud!! Thanks again.....
