Glovebox mis-aligned

Who here has had their glovebox fixed or replaced from being mis-aligned.. i went to the dealer today and looked in 4 of their brandnew cars on the lot and 2 were misaligned the same as mine is.. my sales rep said the service tech told him "replacing the glovebox would not fix the problem because the new one would be skewed like the old one"..

But i told him i knew someone on here had theirs replaced and it looked better.. so has anyone done so? Did anything special need to be done or just replacement? The salesrep thought they may have to re-screw it or something..

Thanks!

I assume you are talking about the glovebox door not being in alignment with the rest of the dash. If that is the case, just replacing the door shouldn't change things, as all the doors are probably made by the same machine and are probably identical.

Several have posted that they CAREFULLY twisted the door until the alignment seemed better. Others said they had a slight adjustment made in the hinge screws and that helped. Still others said they just quit looking at the door so it wouldn't bother them.

Fortunately, I did not face this problem. Some who did may have more to add to this thread.

Dfurlano from another post (http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=304514) gave the definitive solution to this problem. I tried it and it worked like a charm!

Not perfect... but it now is out almost evenly all the way down the top.. (left and right are about even) before right was out and left was inward.

If you really want it perfect, try adding a few more washers.

Someone had previously mentioned that they had used a clear rubber pad mounted on the dash inside the glovebox to fix theirs

I just fixed mine with using a variation on the theme (couldn't find clear palstic pads) which will do the trick for me until i have to bring my Max in for service. It could also work as a premanent fix as well.

I used 3 of these stacked on top of each other:

I stuck the stack here (on the left/shot from the floor of the car upwards):

Can't see it you're sitting or from the front unless you bend over and look for it:

The result is this:

Cost me about $3.00

Forget all other solutions. The washer trick from Dfurlano works perfectly.

Edify11 - not saying that it doesn't. This is just another option. This fix took 3 seconds to perform and didn't require taking anything apart.

The one thing that i like about adding the pad is that the pressure keeps the glove box door tight against the hinge. I would imagine that this would take away any opportunity for rattling from the glove box door.
