Bezel replacement

I have a question:
I bought my 04 SE in May. My car was the showroom model one so I guess from people sitting in it and stuff that someone accidentally put a couple of very light scratches on the silver bezel or the shifter plate or whatever you want to call that thing. My car is auto by the way. I told Nissan I wanted it replaced so they ordered me the part. They say it's going to take an hour to put on. This dealership takes forever to do everything and I'd rather do it myself. Has anyone done this before? Does it just pop off? Why are they saying it takes an hour? Any response from anyone who's done something similar would be appreciated. Thanks.

The shifter plate, attaches to the bottom piece, the silver sqaure piece with the emergency flashers. You cannot buy just the shifter plate, you have to but the whole damn thing. its $120. All of our maximas our scrathed in that area, its cheap material, it will just got scratched again. dust, hair... will scratch it, its cheap cheap cheap. anyways, replacinf it is very easy. just open your cup holder, use a flat head and pry up the bottom of the square area where it meets the cup holder. also you have to take of the shift **** too, thats easy, just wiggle the silver painted plastic piece below the **** and the that piece will slide down, you may have to pull. then there is an omega style pin holding the **** on, remove that and the plate area will come up.

for $120, you mine as well have the dealer do it, even though it only takes 2 mins to do.

On the manual transmission, that same piece costs about $20. I wonder what accounts for the $100 difference?

I only need the bottom piece but the bastards at Nissan told me they have to take apart all kinds of ****. Oh well. I guess I have no choice than to wait for those guys.

Mine was scratched when I was test driving my car, I had them replace it before I picked it up. They said they had to order the piece but when I picked it up the next day it was already replaced...I would just have them do it and don't stress yourself out about scratching the new piece.
They're going to want the old one anyways. And as Chris_RI said all of ours are scratched but at one point (even if for a day) they weren't...
