Half the time when someone introduces themself anyways its by their real name not the org name. After meeting like 20 people i usually forget all the names as well.

Has anyone heard of upgrading the non- nav model with the stock navigation system? Can it be done? I'm sure I'm going to hear "it's not worth the money". Tat may be true.. just wondering if it's been done though.

I was thinking that as well, and that is what i was told. What if you changed out everything tho? It would be a lot but work but personally i'd like it better then the stock no navi screen.

Different windshield on the nav version as well. I had to have mine replaced recently and they had to make sure to get the right one

Wow... that's the first time I've heard of that. I wonder why though... maybe the GPS antenna is embedded in the glass, or the windshield needs to be some kind of special glass or something? Where is the antenna located in the navi Maxima? Sounds like maybe next to the rearview mirror above the AS-1 line or something...

I had my windshield replaced and was too asked whether or not I had navigation. I'm pretty sure that it has to do with the tinting in the front window and antenna receiption.

The antenna itself is in the dash if I remember correctly.

As for a retro-fit, I'm sure that it can be done. Sourcing out all of the necessary parts would be the hardest part... aside from the enourmous cash outlay that is.

you need the right screen b/c they are different sizes. The NAVI is a 7" screen. Our's is 6 or 6.5" The material may also be different, glass v. plastic maybe.

mods are endless if you aren't dead-set on stock appearance. a member on the Org showed me his set up in his 4th gen that runs Windos XP (@ last philly meet). we have more free space than they do. w/ a PC your dash options are indeed limitless: NAVI, MP3, DVD, gaming, etc.

The opening for the info screen in a non-navi max is 7". The screen has a sort of "shroud" around the edges to make it fit, plus the plastic edge of the console lid takes up some room as well. You can fit a 7" 16:9 screen in there easily, but anything bigger might have problems vertically.

It's all about how much time and cash you wanna throw into a project like that... I'm several C-notes into mine now and I don't have a single piece of hardware in the car yet... and that's without considering that I already had the computer hardware.
