Speedometer fast?

Speedometer fast?
Has anyone used a GPS to see if their stock Maxima SE is faster, slower, or correct as far as actual MPH? Just seems like I'm racking up the miles fast, plus if I reset the Trip Calculator and reset the miles under the speedometer they contradict each other. Example, the other day I filled up with gas in prep for a long trip. Before I started the engine I reset the both instruments. When I was around 1/2 tank I check each and found the a different numbers. The miles under the speedometer was 215, and actual miles on the Trip Calculator was around 190... What gives? Just interested if I'm putting more miles on the car then is necessary.

I first started recording both mileages (in my record book) in July 03 when the Max had 4,481 miles total. The next 169.8 miles both read exactly the same.
In Sept 03 with 9,976 total miles, the next 401.6 miles, both exactly the same.
In Jan 04 with 14,006 total miles, the next 112.9 miles, the mileage from the speedometer was only 112.6 miles.
In July 04 with 20,508 total miles, the next 401.5 miles, both exactly the same.
My last reading this month with 27,297 total miles, the next 150.7 miles, the mileage from the speedometer was only 150.5 miles. (This seems to be a winter problem).
Based on when each of these two reading are reset to zero, I can easily see a difference of 0.1 to 0.2 miles between them. Can not explain the 0.3 miles difference I saw in Jan 04. But none of these are way off like your readings. Suggest you have the dealer check this out.

Hmmm I'll have to take a look at my odometer vs. trip meter too. I can't recall anything not matching. Usually I reset them all at the same time. Before I pull away from the gas pumps I reset them all while the car is stationary, maybe that makes a difference?
Like Silvermax stated, there could be a small error between them. Anything like 215 vs 190 miles would certainly call for a trip to the dealer to have it looked at.

I've noticed that the speedometer accuracy is off a little also. In Kansas and Nebraska on some of the highways they have speed checks that measure your speed and show it on a large display. It flashes if you are going over the speed limit. Anyway, on a recent trip, the signs consistently showed that I was going 2-3 mph slower than what was showing on the speedometer. Example, sign shows 60mph, speedometer shows 63mph. I'm running 33 lbs of air in the tires so don't think it is related to over or under inflated tires.

When I drove the car off the lot, I felt like I was driving slower than it read on the speedometer. While driving on the highway, the speedometer says 68 mph, but it feels like 60, plus everyone is flying by me. I think the speedometer is a bit off: 5-10%. Meaning if you're driving 66, it's really 60 or 55 is really 50. I had the same problem on my Mazda 626 that I had back in the early 90's. You are right, you lose out on the Manufactures Warranty faster and depreciates the value faster also. With all these complaints and TSB's, it feels like I'm being taken for a ride (literally)!
