Met a new admirer today !
I was driving down a major artery (city street/2 lanes in both directions) today follwoing a Dodge Durango that was going about 40kph in a 50kph zone (24mph in a 30mph zone) for about 3 blocks in the outside lane. I was getting impatient and wanted to pass but there were cars in the other lane...as soon an opening came up in the other lane i cranked it a little and passed her.
Half a block after that i spot a cop with a radar gun jump into the street to flag me down. He had been standing on the sidewalk with his car parked on a side street.
So i cross the lanes and turn down tihe side street to pull over. He asked me where i was going ? i told him Home Depot...he replied "there must be a big special there for you to be blasting down the road". He showed me the radar that he used to clock me at 83 kph in the 50 kph zone (51 mph in a 30 mph).
I told him that i had been following the toher car at below the speed limit and was just passing her to get around. He said "well itprobalby doesn't take very long to get up there driving this thing !"....i smiled and said " yeah it doesn't take much"
He was just a young guy...he gave an "older" guy a break and knocked down the ticket to 65 kph (40mph) or 15kph over (9 mph). This saved me $100 and 3 points on my license. My ticket ended costing me $56 and no points.
This is the first speeding ticket in 15 years.
So this is the way i see this. I have gone at least 20kph over the speed limit "every" day in the last 15 years. So i can rationalize the $56 speeding ticket this way:
15 years X 365 days = 5475 days of going at least 20 kph over the limit.
5475 X 20 = 109,000 kilometers that i've driven over the speed limit.
So if its only cost me $56 in speeding tickets during that time that would be $56 divided by 109,000 or $56/109000 = $0.00054
So that means that in the last 15 years it has only cost me $0.00054 for every kilometer that i have driven over the speed limkit.
Not a bad deal !

Definitely a setup. The woman in the Dodge Durango was the officer's wife. He was behind in his quota for January, and would have to work Sunday if he didn't do some serious ticketing Saturday.
She has been well-trained, and knew to block only vehicles with enough power to pass in that situation.
The officer knocked down the speed because his quota is number of tickets written, not amount of money collected.
Now the officer and his helpful wife can spend Sunday at the steakhouse.
There are many stories in the city, and this has been one of them . . .

Bob slow down! Your driving like a maniac!
I got nailed in a speedtrap in PA on my way out here. 83MPH in a 65 and the trooper gave me a total break! I was shocked!
I thanked this very nice trooper and was on my way. Treat law enforcement with respect, it goes a long way!
Out here I drive very slowly. Nevada troopers are all over the place and have a million spots to hide on the stretch of Casino Dr here and it's a 35MPH limit which you can exceed very quickly.

While your math is correct, I must argue with the logic. The fact that you have gotten only one ticket over the last fifteen years has nothing to do with it. You are just as likely to get five tickets this week as you are none, if you drive the same way and on mostly the same routes. There are many factors that go into receiving a ticket: where and when you drive, where the cops are, how leanient the cops are, etc....I am in b-school and thought I would just throw this out at you. Don't worry, I am not your typical MBA *****, but these were the thoughts I had in analyzing your experience. Keep on enjoying the Maxima!!!!!!!!

So if its only cost me $56 in speeding tickets during that time that would be $56 divided by 109,000 or $56/109000 = $0.00054
The clock stopped at the point and was reset to zero. So that means that the probability of getting another ticket or 5 more as you mentioned are now in place from that point on.
But hopeully, i won't have to do anymore math on the subject for a while

I hope you don't either. I am in school in Georgia with a pregnant wife about four hours away. When the baby gets ready to come I am going to be flying down the road. Hopefully, I won't be doing any of your calculations in the near future.
Peace,
Peace,
