New noise... :(

Alright...

So lately (over the last couple of days or so) the car has been making some new squeaking noise that I've never heard before.

It happens ONLY when I fully stop, then take off -- and then only when I start off the line a bit fast. There are no noises when I actually stop, and if I take off REALLY slowly then it doesn't happen (or at least I can't hear it), but otherwise it's like a very light squeak coming from what SOUNDS like the back, but being in the cabin it's probably coming from anywhere...

It's almost like the brakes don't let go of the car fast enough or something, but the car doesn't FEEL like the brakes are stuck, and it sure as hell shouldn't sound like that even if they were...

I just had the pads replaced a couple of weeks ago, and I took the wheels off (yes, all four) last night looking for any possible obvious reasons, but I can't find any.

Any ideas? I'm probably taking this to the dealership on Friday but I know how they are -- you tell them EXACTLY how to reproduce a problem and they're never able to.

And on a side note... the floor jack and torque wrench that I got from Sears have been the best purchases that I've made in quite some time... And a billion thanks to lightonthehill for the write-up on the lug nuts...

No takers?

I'm thinking it might be something with the e-brake not releasing properly or something... not sure why, but that's the only thing I can think about.

I'm taking the car in tomorrow to have it looked at.

roll down your windows and try to see the area where the noise comes from. I am experiencing strut squeak/bad bushing squeak from the rear of the car. It happens most likely when the weight shifts to the back of the car. I could faintly hear it with the windows up. It was a squeak that I could not figure out where it came from until i rolled down the windows. It sounds like it's the sway bar/bushings/struts in the rear causing this. Others have complained of the problem when going over bumps. Go take some speed bumps and see if it happens then too with the windows down of course. Just another soon to be common issue with the 04 max.....weeeeeeeee

Yeah I was one of those people... when the weather was cold, my brushing would squeak like the devil. Now that it's warm, the noise went away... I'm not looking forward to next winter...

The dealer, of course, was unable to reproduce that particular problem. I'll have to take the car back when it's 20° outside again and see if they can hear it...

As far as pinpointing this new noise, I'm fairly sure it's from the back, but I guess I could be mistaken. Right now I'm pretty sure I'm able to reproduce it all the time when I accelerate from a stop, so the dealer should have no problem hearing it.

I'll let you know what's up...
