K&N Experience??

I know this is but just wanted to know others experience with this filter. I put mine in yesterday and started it up and the ses cam on. After trying to reset with no success, went to the dealership and the service writer pratically gave me the riot act. She said that if the air sensor went that they would not cover it and it cost 500.00 to replace. Now she is got me worried to leave it in. Anyway she reset the light. Should In leave it in there and see if it comes back on? On the other hand I may have caused to light to come on. I forgot to plug that thing back into the side of the intake before I started the car. Any suggestions folks??

Problem with oiled filters can be too much oil ... if it gets on the MAS, you have problems.

I have heard of that in the past (here of course), mine, was installed as it should, I re-connect everything's back and after 2000 miles of that, no single issue. Matter of luck?, maybe...

I'm sure it's possible to come out of the box over-oiled... who knows?

I've used them for a while in other cars, have always been afraid to clean and oil it.. I hate to admit it, but I just buy a new one.

The dealer reset the light and I guess I will see if it come back on. I think that I may have cause it by forgetting to plug thos wires back on. Anyone know exactly where the MAF sensor is?

MAF is inside the black elbow before the intake manifold.... you can't miss it there is a harness attached to it.

I usually do exactly what Okiwan does and just buy a new one. I'm afraid I will go "oil" crazy and have the MAF getting hit with the excess. I still keep my old ones and plan on cleaning them and just letting them dry for along time before attempting to swap...

Theres no reason to unplug anything to put in a filter. Make sure you got the cover on right... Try reinstalling it, the light shouldnt come on. All I do is slip mine out the drivers side when I clean it. Ive never "unpluged" anything

Listen man, same exact thing happened to me a few months ago...I of course flipped out and put everything back the way it was before with the old filter...and called the dealer. Wellon the 3rd day with the SES on, I start up the car and the light is nolonger on! Im like Phew....call the dealer, call off the appt. and havent seen the light since! Ill never drop a K&N in the car again bc it seriously F'd up the idle and caused the light to come on, and get this...messed up the seat egress and wheel raising when the key is removed from the car! WTF? Never again...lol
I blotted that damn filter really well...it was spotless and not oily.

I never had any problems with the K&N filters...on any of my cars...even cleaning and re-oiling isn't a big deal.
Also...never had to disconnect anything on the Max to replace an airfilter...maybe thats why things went wrong?

How exactly did installing an air filter turn off the memory wheel/seat? I dont understand how people have trouble... its an air filter. Theres no need to even remove the top of the filter box...

I was having trouble getting the top to move because of the elbow so I loosened the clamp and disconnected the wires, did want to pull on them. I forgot to reconnect them before I started the car and it did not like it at all. Reconnected and car ran fine. I love the power, or maybe its just in my head but the throttle response seems to be faster. Has anyone had a K&N in their car for a few their a few thousand miles??? Has anyone had a MAS failure?

I don't understand the seat egress thing. Did you disconnect the battery? I don't see the connection between the filter and the seat?? HUMM!!!

lol i know, i didnt expect it either...ill tell ya exactly what i did:
#1 I opened up the airbox and switched filters
#2 I got in the car and started her up
#3 I shut the car down because IMMEDIATELY following ignition the following occured:
SES light came on
Car idled 500-750RPM's too high in park
When shifted into Reverse 'thud' heard (because the motor was idleing too fast, this really broght it to my attention)
#4 I got out of the car (seat did not go back, wheel did not go up up), took out the K&N, put in the paper one.
#5 Started car, after a few moments, idle is ok, but then the automatic wheel/seat thing stops working

Bad luck?

#5 When I got in the car,
Was your seat a temporary thing or did you have to take it in for repair?

What ive noticed about these seats is if your getting in and you put pressure against it it stops moving. Like I get in start the car and try to grab my smokes out of my pocket... the seat stops. Same thing if you put it gear to fast, the wheels and seat will stop.

weird, my wheel continues to drop even if i start driving. i turned the seat off b/c i already have it all the way back.

w/ all the electronics, I suppose the seat and wheel not working is to help you notice something is wrong in case you ignore the light.

I still have my K&N waiting for 30k to come. I know i over-oiled my last one b/c the one sensor went bad in the buick.

Skyler: So all this started b/c you unplugged things you shouldn't have and forgot to reconnect them?

Well nismo, i dont know if this all happened to him becasue he unplugged things (im sure it didnt help though) but all I did was drop the filter in...and I got the same result he did. Furthermore, if oil got on the MAF sensor...do you thingk it would correct itself as quickly as it did? My advice in this situation is to put everything back the way it was before, and call the dealer and claim ignorance...they cant prove you caused it.

The service chich was pretty cool about it. She reset it for me and told me it would be in my best interest to take i out. I am going to leave it in and just keep the factory one and if the MAF goes swaporoo and off to the dealer. I might get busted, I don't know.
