Well good old Jersey does it again

20's in jersey= Bent rim. Bent my rim yesterday in a pothole that made my teeth chatter. Route 78W going to work, left me stranded with no spare . Thanks my fault but hey, thats what I have roadside for. Actually my dounut is flat. Rim is bent on the inside and the care vibrates. I am going to try to get it fixed and have the all powdercoated at the same time. To be continued.

This is why I gave up on the whole rim thing years ago. I had an 87 Jetta with 15x7 195-50-15 tires (large at the time). I must have went through at least six set of rims. At the time there weren't many places to straighten out your rims so you were out of luck if your joints were bent. You either had to drive around on the donut hoping the manufacturer still produced the rim or just buy a whole new set of other rims. The worst is driving around with one bent rim with the whole shimmy thing going on (to me it makes me not even wanna drive the vehicle anymore). Sorry to hear about your situation bro.

Damn... sorry to hear that. I find myself driving alot slower than I normally do. When I have to go somewhere at night, I take my Wife's Honda... Just incase a pothole jumps out in front of me.

I love the look guys but I'd be buying rims every week if I had them. Tough break 04maxse. I'm looking for some nice looking old fashond steel chrome 17s.

I ditched the donut when I got my 20's and put the stock "real size" rim in it's place. Not to say it wouldn't go flat as well but at least it's better to run stock size than a rainbow sprinkle!!! It's come in handy for me, thankfully no pothole/bend but just a nail...knock on wood!

I feel your pain. I've got a bent wheel and busted tire thanks to a pothole. I should hopefully be back on dubs by this time next week.

This might sound stupid but are any of you interested in posting pics of your rim damage? I'd like to see, but if you're not exactly in the mood I understand

Ahhhh, I live in NJ right off 78 in fact and I know what you mean.
The roads in NJ suck and the corrupt politicians won't fix them.
That's why I'm losing my 18's and going with a 17 inch Fosse later this summer.

I'm an engineer for NJDOT and its not that the roads suck, its the amount of wear and tear on them, there is so much commuter traffic in the state that is damn near impossible to fix everypothole that springs up. And when the maintanence crews patch them its a quick fix and then within 30 seconds of fixing traffic is back on it and it never gets time to settle into place. Since the budget wasn't approved, the state has lost already 500 million dollars of federal funding for road improvements just this year. Here in south jersey the roads arent so bad because we usually don't have traffic sitting on the road.
Sucks rocking dubs around here with lipped wheels cause they are more prone to getting bent. Have had two rims fixed from bends, one rim is scrateched on the inside lip from getting tires put on and one scratched from a curb. To keep up on aesthetics for the max in the northeast, it cost money to a good chunk of money to get into the game and just about the same amount to stay in the game

Andymax95 you have one of the best looking 6th gens. I never thought much of
of the axis seven until I saw them on your car. Glad to know who I should be calling when tractor trailer traffic is denied to local roads. Sjers/Camden here.

I feel your pain. Was coming back from the Borgata the other day and hit a pothole right near the Verrazano. Sure as anything next day I have a nice bubble in my RSA. Thank God the rim was not damaged. Went to and got a new tire today! $200! Darn roads!

NYC NJ have to have the worst roads on the face of the earth. Nice to know we pay 2.60 for gas and most of the taxes are supposed to go to repair the roads. I hate living here for that reason i bet alot of those annoying squeeks we we have would not happen if the roads were better. Thats the main reason why i have not bought rims. I liv ein brooklyn where the hole can be like 4 or 5 inches deep.

WOW! im glad i dont live in new jersey or new york for many reasons but damn you cant even put 20's on the maxima without seriously risking the life or your tires and rims. And i thought some parts of miami had bad roads, i feel lucky to be able to drive fast throught the streets of miami with no problem. down here keeping the stock rims is better buying aftermarket smaller wheels... example going from stock 18's to 17's even if they are chrome. They look strange and they aint pimpin... good luck with your pimpin in NY or NJ.

I wouldnt even think of going higher than 18s in my 02 living in the NYC area. NJ roads are a crap shoot: they're either in stellar condition OR disasterous.

04 MaxSE, dont ever go to Princeton NJ in your 20s: there are several streets there that nearly bent the OEM 16s on my minivan.

Damn man. All these stories of rims has finally made me decide on just sticking with 18's. Yesterday alone i nailed every pothole on the road it seemed. And 20's will not last long at all.

Damm dude, sorry to hear your $hit got taken out, I'm originally from NYC and currently live in Southern Maryland, everytime I head up north, I take my SUV because NYC roads suck just as much as NJ if not worse. Pot holes are another reason I kept my stock 18's on and just lowered the ride. I have to admit, I get my a$$ ripped out in Maryland taxes, however, all the roads down here are baby a$$ smooth. Hammer time...

I was gonna stay with 18s also but 18s just look so small unless they are the stocks. Maybe just because all the ones I have seen were with a lip.
