Basic Mods to see 300hp from the Max
#281
I wasn't going to come back on this tread until I redynoed the car. Where I had my last dyno the mustang dyno is out so I will have to wait till I get down to Florida. I will start to drive down on the 9th. one more thing when I step on my gas pedal with my mods the car is moving and I know there is more power than when there were no mods. The ecu adjusts to the mods, The proble with the ECU is that it limits how fast you can go. I think it stops at 143 mph. Right now as far as I know no one is working on this problem. I don't know to much about the Z but the money I have spend on my car is working to give my car more power. As per my last dyno even though some members are having problems with it and how it feels when I drive it, there is more power. Warren

Most with headers and some tweaking of other things are seeing dynos comparable to 350z's .. stock and lightly modified.

Also what fuel were you running , you can pick up a few Hp with the highest grade of fuel your 94 i think it is....
Further I do not think your speed limiters come in at such a low speed , please correct me if i am wrong..
However just pressing the off button on VDC will not shut it fully off , you have to go to a dyno shop who does a lot of 350z and they have to bypass magically somehow.. I had this issue with dynos and VDC.

Thanks for letting me know that there isnt anything
wrong with my car.
I always use premium; today it was 92 grade, not 94.
Anyway, the dyno guy is a GM (Corvette) tuner, and he suggested
that I have the computer reprogrammed--he gave me a list of
makers: Superchips, Fastchips, Hypertech, TTS, Diablo, but it
seems that none of them work on the 04-05 Maxima.

Here are the dyno curves:

What is weird is that the rev/speed limiter kicked in
so early = under 100 mph!

Well I saw the car kinda "buckle" suddenly, and the technician told me
that it was the speed limiter. Weird!

The guy who run the test told me it was the limiter. I actually
saw the car buckling, so something did really happen.
But he only tunes Corvettes and other GM vehicles, and perhaps didnt know
what he was doing.

When VDC kicks in, it is like tapping the rev limiter. I know 6th gens can do more than 98 mph.
Check out the dyno forums, VDC and it's effects on dynoing is duscussed in some threads.
I saw the curves, but do you have the actual run files?
Ask some 350z guys how thy do it ..

just out of curiousity, can you even take the 5at to redline, im thinking you hit the revlimiter not the speed limiter. and for third gear run those are the same numbers i got with out my safc II in third gear, but i have a six speed. do one in fourth is my opinion.

No. Here's what the dyno guy told me in an email today,
replying to my questions:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
>>in what gear(s) where the three runs conducted?<<
3rd gear, as that is a 1:1 ratio within the transmission.
>>Did you use the shiftable feature of the AT to shift it by hand?<<
Yes, it was manually shifted into 3rd before the run was made. The PCM
of the car would NOT let the car stay in 3rd for very long, (as a safety
feature due to excessive wheel speed in that gear probably) even when put
there manually, because it shifted into 4th anyway during the end of the
run regardless if "3rd" was manually selected of not.
>>Also, my car has traction control, maybe it was on during the test?<<
No....... NO car can be pulled on the chassis dyno when the TCS system
is engaged~ the vehicle wouldn't let it even if we tried to pull the car
with it deliberately engaged.
>>I'm asking because I still don't understand why the speed limiter kicked
in.<<
As I said, there are many factors that can cause this, one of which is
the PCM electronically trying to protect the car, especially since the PCM
sees the front wheels spinning at 100+ MPH, but sees no wheel speed coming
from the rear tires at all.... As I also stated before, running a car on
the track and running a car on the dyno is two completely different,
isolated, situations that are *WORLDS* apart from each other, therefore
comparing the two is really pointless for accuracy.

Cattman Exhaust Install
Just installed the Cattman Exhaust (with resonator) on my 04' SE with 5 speed auto. I love the look and overall sound. My problem is that it has very bad resonance from 1800 to 2800 rpm under any throttle. Have others with the Cattman had similar problems. The exhaust mellows aout and is sweet above 3000 rpm. It is just annoying that it is always so loud at the normal cruise rpms. Any advice would be appreciated.
