CD Player Quit Working....

My CD player will load discs, but won't play them. The display keeps flashing "Check Disc". I have tried different discs, nothing seems to work.

I was just wondering if anybody else has had this problem or any suggestions.

This is the first problem I have had with my car and I really don't want to take it to the Stealer.....

I had mine replaced 3 separate times for similar problems. The stealership may be the only route. And, you will likely get a re-furb. Good luck.

High quality cd optic cleaner disc. If it is having trouble reading discs, you may try a cleaner cd...cleaning the machine may work. I had to do this recently with my XBOX. Worked good.

I have had mine replaced once already also! It still does it occassionally, and when it does, it is ONLY with burnt discs, not store bought!

Stealership replaced mine for me once already. If you go in for that, they may try and hem-haw you. Remind them that they KNOW this issue exists, so they ought to just fix it and cut the excuses! (Mine tried)!

Thanx for the suggestions guys (and gals). I will try cleaning the laser first and if that doesn't do it, I guess I'm off to the Stealership.

also keep in mind that these OEM cd players get extremely hot so if you have burnt cds don't put the paper labels on them..... as a matter of fact it is not recommended for any cd player.... they will melt an mess up the inside of the cd player..... I got a letter along with my cds in the mail stating the cd player will not allow for cds with paper labels on them...... I have had other problems like the others in that it wouldn't read discs even new ones just opened.... that's when I decided to get rid of it all and put aftermarket in.... good luck with the cd player.... you will have to wait till they get one in and then they install it and take the old one out and send it in..... so if you can get all of your cds out do it prior to otherwise you have to wait for them to send em in the mail

This is the same exact problem I had. It would play store bought CD's usually, but not Burnt cds (unless I got lucky). I took it to the dealership, and they said it would cost anywhere from $200-$400, They said they would need to take out my whole unit, and ship it out for some one else to look at and fix since it's an internal problem

It wasn't covered under warranty because my car is over 36K, but I can't really remember if I bought the warranty at the dealership when I bought the car. I'm pretty sure I bought a 3 or 5-Year warranty, just have to find those papers.

I also noticed some one said they did some after-market stuff, what exactly did u do?

check the forums here on the org there are stickies everywhere talking about aftermarket or upgrading your sound system..... I have a flip out screen that plays pretty much everything I put in it cd/dvd wise..... looks better and sounds better however if you replace the deck you need to replace the speakers also..... 04RedOpMax has a good story explaining why changing out the bose amplified speakers are important when changing head units.....

Mine's starting to play only on one side as well. It'll play both when i give it a quick hit on the side, next to my knee.... but that's only a temp solution. I might be due for a stereo upgrade soon. I'm sure it's mentioned here on the forum somewhere, I gotta figure out how to integrate the navigation audio.

should be pretty simple to do..... anyways if you hit it and it comes back on then something is loose in the wiring..... take it in and tell them exactly that..... that you hit it and it works..... this will give the tech an idea where to start...... I recommend you do the same silver10th...... otherwise they will do plug and play troubleshooting..... which takes forever but get's the job done..... it's probably a harness issue..... good luck

you're hitting the door panel or the center consol? if its the door, just take the door panel off and see if there's any loose wiring going to the mid and tweeter. the panel comes off pretty easily.

Sorry, should have been more descriptive... i hit the side of the stereo. Unfortunately, i'm out of warranty. I will have to take a look myself. It hasn't been consistent enough to bother me, but it is frustrating when it does happen.

If they're just regular audio cds, then they may not display the track info. However if they are either enhanced, or have CD-Text, then it will display track info

Yes, hardly any pressed CDs have CD-Text... most of the time to use this you'll have to burn your own (which I guess isn't recommended?).

Well, you're lucky if you have one of those printers that can print directly onto the CD surface

What do you mean? I've had good luck with using regular CD-Rs in my CD player (although I don't do it often). I never put a label on them, just use a permanent sharpie to label them.

looks like i'll be taking a trip to the dealership because mine started that check disk crap last week. it's happened once before for a day or so but never this long. if i happen to turn the car off with a disc in the changer, you can hear the changer going through some changes. oh well.

I think CD text is something that the buring software puts on the cd...i burn using real player and get text...dosent matter the cd.
