well this is a cheap upgrade if it works out, which I have a feeling it will. Sway bars and shocks are not too expensive and really have a significant impact on handling and ride. The bars are $90 for front, cattman rear bar is about $130, and shocks are $255. So for about $475 u have a nice suspension package.
Bar is due in tomorrow. Hopefully Ill meet kenttz there at Performance Nissan.

UPDATE: I called Performance Nissan they said the brackets came in but the bar and bushings did not. They also indicated that they "may" be back ordered. The wait is on.

This is what I remember from installing one on my Altima. Support the car somewhere other than the subframe. I used the front subframe bolts. Remove the rear subframe bolts, rear motor mount bolt, and the Y-pipe. Pry the rear of the subframe down as far as possible. Remove endlinks and swaybar mounts then start the joyous task of switching swaybars. Its like a chinese puzzle getting it out and back in there. Seems impossible then all of a sudden you get it.

Installation of the front sway bar is about $250 to $300 in labor. The dealer told me the entire subframe has to be lowered to get at the bar. It's a very crooked piece that goes in a very tight place so I believe him. I'm going to take it to a local mechanic and have it done but it sounds like he'll have three hours of labor too.

Yeah, the sub will be the pain. I think I can do it with the car on ramps . . cross ur fingers. Still waiting for the call that the part is in. . . . . waiting . . . .

Just when you thought the sway bar was in Nissan pergatory, never to be seen by mortal men again . . . . I'm sitting in my office, slaving away, listening to some poor wretch and her problems with her divorce, I see the number for Performance Nissan pop up on my telephone. Upon winding up my phone call, I get the message that THE SWAY BAR AND ALL PARTS ARE IN!!!!
I call back to confirm, and they confirm it is in. Soooooo, I leave office to head to Perf. Nissan and sure enough, the bar is in. It appears thicker, but only an open ended wrench will be able to tell for sure.
I got a 7/8" wrench and it fit nicely over the stock bar. I tried to fit it over the SE-R bar . . . . . . .not even close to fitting! So it is confirmed that our bar is IN FACT 2mm smaller in diameter, a significant difference. I got a 15/16" wrench and it baaarely fits in some places. So, the bar is almost 1 inch thick.
My cam batteries died, so Ill take pics in a few minutes!!

omg thtas crazy...so wait your reply before about the RSB...does that mean that for people who don't have the RSB yet that it would be ok to get the set of SE-Rs? will the rear fit? obviously the front does...buh deus do u kno if the SE-R's RSB fits the maxima? cause if so i'm soo goin NISMO...just waiting to see if the NISMO stocks and springs for the SE-R fits the maxima.

I dont know if the RSB fits although I suspect its possible. I have a Progress RSB, so it doesnt matter to me. When I talk to Nissan, I believe they said the Altima had several RSB part numbers depending on the year. I think the only way to get the Altima SE-R bar is to make sure you have a larger RSB.

Looks like supporting engine/trans is necessary, so Ill use a floor jack, which makes it tough since its in the middle of everything. Im having a tough time undoing the suspension bolts as they are heavy duty and I need some 1/2" drive tools.

I just dont have the necessary equipment, so Im backing down. I will have to have someone do this for me, as much as I dont wanna do that. GRRRRRR. Its a shame, cuz it looks fairly straightforward.

I contacted a place that is local to me, called GTR in Rancho Cucamonga, and they said they MAY be able to squeeze me in today to have the bar installed. www.gtrhipo.com is the website. They are into Mustangs, but I guess they do any mods on other cars too. Ill keep u posted.

I didnt hear from them. I did install my UDP, and while I was installnig it, I saw how easy the sway bar is to unbolt from the car. The problem is removing it from the car, as it has some rather sharp twists and turns. Im reconsidering having someone else do it. Ill probably call GTR up and schedule an appointment to have them do it this week. Ill keep you all posted as usual.

The Nismo bars should fit definitely fit the rear as they are pretty much identical. I don't see why the front sway bar and the nismo struts wouldn't fit. The Alt and Max are very similiar in chassis and suspension design. Some would argue that it's the same car underneath.

Although the Nismo swaybar set instructions also recommended supporting the engine/transmission it is not necessary. You will be expending a great deal of effort with a large prybar to get the rear of the subframe to drop enough to swap the bars.
