6th Gen Max Keys

Recently..I saw a key for a Max with a chrome emblem on both sides..and mine unfortunately does not have the little chrome emblem. I have the 2004. Do any of you (maybe 04) 2005-2006 owners have this chrome nissan burger/emblem on the key itself? I'd really like to get one with the chrome..just my opinion..

Actually I'd prefer an 07 Remote as well.....anyway the unlock/panic/lock/open trunk can be programmed for 2004-2006 Maxima? It's so much nicer than the 04-06 Remote....but I want my chrome burger on my key!

People see your keys, when you take them out...

I think my Mercedes came with one of the nicest looking keys....take a look..

(I'll post my actual pic tomorrow..but for now this is fine, courtesy AOL)

My 05 has the emblem on just one side. I did have an Audi w/ a key similar to your Benz's- very nice lookin'. My Murano key smokes 'em both though(Intelligent Key).

Both actually....heh

I want 2007 Maxima Intelligent Key Fob (minus auto unlock/push start obviously)

And 2005+ Maxima Chrome Key (as pictured above).

I just want the 2007 Key Fob to do Lock/Unlock/Trunk/Panic. I want it for the looks, same goes with the chrome emblem on the key.

Anyone think this is possible? I might be the first......or will one of you beat me?? Hmmmm.....

Speaking of keys..

Did you know if you hold the unlock button down long enough your front two windows roll down?

I learned that just a lil while ago, and I've had my Max for a while hehe...

As far as I know, been a Max feature since '95 EXCEPT for '00 & '01.

For sure, '95, '96, '03 & '07 have it, '00 did not.

It freaked me out the first time it did that on mine, I thought there was something broken. It's cool but realy don't use it that often.
As far as the key, it's in your pocket most of the time.

You guys are serious? Read the manual lots of info there. Been using it every day throughout the summer to open the windows while walking to the car so that the hot air can escape. I would start the car, kick the A/C on and roll them back up. Worst thing happened once when I had my kees press on the button in my packet. Left the car unlocked with windows partially down overnight. I freaked next morning when going to work. Thank god it wasn't raining or some morons weren't walking by.

What other tricks does the car have for those of us who can't read or are to lazy to read?

07 Max Intelligent keyfob will not work with the 04-06 Max, even to unlock the doors.

As for the keys, the solid black key from the factory is the valet key. The chrome emblem keys are the regular ones. You can buy them new at your dealer, but they are not cheap.

Then, I will be the first to make it work.

Anyway, I only got two solid black and one solid maroon keys..no chrome emblem. Oh well. I have 04 SE.

I'm not sure you could do the '07 fob for the '04-'06 thing. Maybe you could get it to work electronically, but what about the actual key that's inside? That key (on the black top plastic part) is where the ring exists for putting the fob on a keychain. Without that actual key (that slides into and is housed by the fob), you wouldn't be able to hang it on a ring.

So if that's OK, then maybe you could get the electronics to work on the trunk, etc. but you'd have to carry it separately.

As for the 'window down' function, I use it every day in the warm weather too. It often freaks out other people in the parking lot as this empty car starts lowering its windows - and it lets out all of that hot air before I get to it. The '07 requires that I be a little closer than the '02 I had. I could be way across the parking lot with that car and still open the windows. With the '07, I have to be in a closer radius to do it.

Another 'window down' trick can be accomplished with the actual key. Insert the key into the door lock and turn and hold it in the open position. It'll open the windows. Then, with the key, you can close the windows too by turning and holding the lock in the lock position. (At least I could on the '02 - I haven't really used a key with the '07).

2007 Maxima - Keys? How quaint!

Harry

Two black "real keys" and 1 maroon valet key -- no chrome emblem on any of them -- was exactly what I had on my '03.

Maybe '04 (or just some early early ones) carried this over and it changed in '05 (or later in '04)?

If I remember correctly you can close windows with the key fob too. (When window down, hold lock and windows up.)

I think they added the chrome hamburger to the keys during the '04 model year. Probably happened around February 2004, when they added the colors Smoke and Coral Sand and changed the SL tranny to a 5 speed tiptronic exactly like the SE.

I say that because I have a friend with an '04 built in summer of '03, and he has no chrome emblem on his keys, while I have the chrome hamburger on one side of each of my keys for an '04 SL built in May of 2004.

I love the fact I can lock my Maxima from distances as far as 550 feet away. Doesn't always reach that far, but, if I can see the car (unobstructed view), the fob virtually always works up to 300 feet or so. It may be that fob battery strength/freshness enters into this.

If you put your key in your door and turn it to the right for 2 sec, windows go down. Put them and turn them to the left for 2 sec, they go up! I wish I would have known this when I got the car and not 2 years later(today)....

You know how many times i had to get in the car, turn the key, and press both windows auto up!!!!?? (even down in some cases)

As for the Maxima Keyfob range......I think it is the best ever. It goes so far. I parked over 400 ft away from a huge store.....and was curious so hit panic.....sure enough Maxi was flashing and honking away

When I was getting my Benz, the salesman said oh these cars have such great range remotes. I was about 200 FT from my max on the other side of the building..a huge building with tons of walls & enclosures.....and sure enough, hit panic, and Maxi started beepin and flashin away...he was impressed.

Confirmed can't use key fob to bring up windows. But I'm glad to learn (read above) that turning the keys on door lock left and hold 2 seconds will bring up open windows. That's handy.

How long was it on the lot? Might have been there for a while (not too long if cutover was in February as lightonthehill suggested).

You have the '03 style keys that were used up 'till then.

Defiant_Max04 - The VIN serial numbers for the '04 were right around 922000 on June 1st, 2004. For the '04 Maxima, the VIN serials began at 800000 in January 2003. With those two details, you can come very close to knowing when your Maxima was built.

Another possibility may be that the dealer lost the keys to your car (that absolutely does happen), and used blanks designed for another vehicle to cut and program new ones for your car?
