typically 3" exhaust are used for turbocharged cars, but im pretty sure its not gonna hurt if you have it.

A 3" inch muffler on a 280hp V6 can ONLY hurt.
Exhaust will flow much slower, you WILL loose power.

Sorry about the delay. Pictures will be up shortly. I haven't noticed any loss of power at all, except for a mean tone. What size did everyone else go with for the pipe?

How can you be so sure, exhaust theory is of great debate. It has been proven that a 2.5 dual with a modded motor(cams, headers, etc..) produces more HP than a 2.5 single on the VQ. 3" duals on the other hand and I would certainly agree, but a 3" single should make more on heavy mods.

We've gone to great extent to prove it, obviously we won't reveal our techniques, but let's just say " trust me "

So you won't reveal your techniques but you have proved it. I have seen mutliple dynos before and after of a 2.5 dual vs single 2.5 and ALL show gains. Again with this information how can you boldly say a bigger exhaust than single 2.5 will kill power. I don't mean to ride you but I have seen the numbers and you won't give any.

The muffler inlet size really doesn't play much in terms of power, the power is really determined BEFORE muffler, X-pipe or Y-pipe configuration, etc, there's so much more than the muffler that have to be taken into consideration.

To refer to the original post, if the guy runs a 3" muffler with the standard 2" or 2.25" piping on a Maxima, you will loose power.

And obviously you'll show gains with a 2.5" single/dual, but try a 3" single/dual on a NA approx. 300hp.

I have yet to prove it on a dyno, but I have not felt any loss of power with the 3 inch pipe. Actually, I feel as if I'm able to accelerate smoothier now.

I know... sorry about that, thought I was going to go back to the exhaust shop but I didn't get a chance... and I used "stock like" tips, so the pics were pointless.

His post indicated he put 3" piping and tips which I assume would mean 3" piping before the muffler. I agree just throwing a 3" muffler on the back of stock piping is pointless.

As for the 2.5" dual, I didn't mean single dual as in the stock setup. I was referring to true duals, headers back. A single 3" is less area than dual 2.5's.
