What do I have to lube?!?!?!?!

I think there was a discussion about this a LONG time ago, but I'm not too sure. My steering wheel column has been excessively squeaky the past few days. Not a squeak here and there, but a consistent metal on metal squeaking! When I have the radio on, it sounds like the thing is trying to add its own beat to the song!

I know it involves taking out the air-bag, and a little bit of work, but could someone please clarify the process for me?

thanks,
dan

What's a "zert" fitting? How could it be under the driver side headlamp when the squeak is coming right from my steering column?

A zert fitting is for attaching a lube gun to. It's essentially a grease port fitting.

I tried not to chime in here, but it was funny. Sorry Prjct, I have nothing valuable to offer here.

damn it, I see responds in this thread hoping that they are informative and it's crap! My steering wheel column, and my rear end are squeaking like a mother****er, my sun-roof is being retarded and not closing all the way at times! ****ing american made "Nissan" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You would assume that a car of this class would not have such bull**** problems like this! I mean a squeaky ****ing steering column!?

like Kamil said a while ago...the 6th gen is pretty much a pos, mated with an outstanding motor and decent transmission, cosmetics suck on it-rear doesn't line up properly, front bumper/grill peel like there's no tomorrow, chrome roof strips are made of 2 different materials that discolor, struts blow like they are made of plastic, tires suck, I could keep going on and on and it just pisses me off that SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CAR has so many minor things wrong with it that just add up and frustrate the hell out of me!

I'm done now and if anyone has anything valuable to say, then please speak up.

I can tell you that I have experienced a few of these things also Prjct. I apologize, I wasn't trying to infuriate you. You are asking a serious question.

I haven't heard of the steering column squeaking, so I can't offer any help, except to listen to where it is coming from and spray a bit of WD40 on it.

I am also discouraged by this stuff. I am more discouraged that Nissan knows these things exist and yet they try to stuff you with the bill to fix what they should have corrected a long time ago, as in, before it left the factory.

Oh yeah, regarding your rear end squeaking, I think Mystery said that his was too and that it started after the rear sub frame recall. Have you had this done? If so, keep nagging the dealership until it is fixed correctly.

I did have this done, but quite some time ago and I thought that it was my RSB bushings, so I re-lubed them and the noise was cut in half but it was still there. Do you know what exactly is causing this sound from the recall that they did?

IIRC they replaced the entire rear subframe. If you've relubed then you've been under your car. Did you see the shiny subframe piece right above/in front of your RSB? That is the recalled part. I have heard people saying that they have 'the squeak' once that's fixed. Maybe run it to your local Nissan joint and have them listen.

I'm just not sure, especially since you've relubed the RSB bushings.
