REALLY Pleasant suprise

I was driving my 07 in portland, OR this weekend listenting to regular radio....NOT satellite...and the display screen showed the name of the radio station, the band playing, and the name of the song. My bumble-shiiite neighborhood only shows 97.7 or whatever. Oh well.

Yeap it's probably because of RDS and that's stereo and radio station dependent. If your radio supports it but your station doesn't, you get nada!

RDS can show the station name, genre, artist name and track played. Hell in the UK, RDS even scrolls. My understanding is that scrolling RDS is frowned upon stateside!

I don't mind it at all. Infact, I've had people in my car, comment on it often.

I have noticed that sometimes, it gets hung up on a title or artist ALL DAY! I, have been led to believe that it is the info the station transmits.

We have one station in central Missouri that has scrolling RDS. It's not very fast , they just send a new block of letters shifted by 1 or 2 characters every few seconds. Neat though.

Yeah that is the station. We have one around here that is good for screwing up the RDS.

Yes, the information is sent by the radio station itself, so unlike CD text you can't control how fast it scrolls and what it displays...

scrolling

When the navigation was turned on, every station I tried scrolled across the bottom, below the map. If navigation was turned off, the information was stationary, since there is plenty of room on the screen.

On a 2K4, I would go after market - better system for less money. Pioneer and Alpine are popular choices. You can also attempt a screen move that brings the Info screen down toward the shifter.

hey S_Klass thanks for the info...but when i went to the store they told me something about changing my speakers too because then i would have to buy a converter to make it sound better if i took out my old screen and put in a navi ..i found one at like best buy for 1000 flat pioneer and great deal with rear mirrior already installed which in my opinion was good ...but that same guy was the one who informed about the sounded of the speakers after taking out my screen now and putting in new nai...what you think and you know anywhere where i can purchase the navi for maybe cheaper and good??

It appears that not all Maxima stereos have RDS. Is this correct?
