At SEMA, I saw a Mercedes SLR and checked out the shift **** with the START button under a lid that you flip up. That was so hot. I pointed it out to some people how had no idea thats how you start the car. They loved it just like I do.

Honestly man, if you could pull that off it would be the ultimate hotness x 400.

I'm speechless at the thought

Luckily I don't talk out loud as I type.

Well, I just got off the phone with Fletcher Jones Mercedes in Newport Beach and asked about the shift ****. Before he told me how much it was, the parts guy asked me "Are you ready?" Then he told me how much it was, and my face went ------>

Without cheating, take a guess as to how much it is. I'll tell ya how much in a couple of days.

Some systems require the key to be put in, and other do not. A retrofitted START button in our cars will require a key to be inserted and turned.

I'd have to say its worth it. Imagine people getting in your car and seeing you flip the lid and start the car.

Honestly I would get in the car and amaze myself. Flip lid... push button... ..... turn car off ..... flip lid down .... flip lid up..... push button ..... ... turn car off and get out.... walk in the front door and

We delayed the release of the product so we could make it better. Now, you no longer have to hold the button down to crank the car, you simply press and release it. It is ready for testing and will hopefully be available soon.

Whats the point if you still have to take the key out of your pocket, put it in the ignition, turn the key (just not all the way) and THEN push a button. Don't make no kinda sense. Now if it were like the OEM starters where the key is still in your pocket and you push the button then that cool, otherwise its a waste of time and money.

for us 07 people..could we simply take the turning switch out, and some how use the altima button? I mean I'm sure its much easier, and most likely a direct fit in the hole.

My coworkers camry requires no key insert. Just get in the car with it in your pocket, push button. Do that or its pointless.

I'm wondering if you get the immobilizer bypass (model XK07 for Nissan CAN vehicles) used by car alarms, would we be able to get by without inserting a key?

Nice idea Mark but IMO... it would be only worth it if you are planning to put that monster of a max you have in a show or magazine.

Is that what you are planning?

Yikes thats a lot of dough!! Why dont you just save up the exra 2500 or so and make her a Turbo Max if you indeed plan on doing this?

lol. i bought one of these for my 97 maxima from this website. I still have it and never installed it. its lame in my opinion because you still have to turn the key, then press the button. well i have a 06' now...still dont need it, unless you want to impress the girls...lol...if only..

p.s. ./..now if you can hide the button and use it as a start kill in a sense...that'd be hot.

Yeah, I just ordered the part too. I picked up a DEI 556U from Ebay for $17 shipped. It requires a key to be installed in it but it's cheap and I have no use for my valet key (I just hope I can find it).

I'm also planning on moving the antenna further back to sit under the little storage pocket in the center console. That way I should be able to just drop the keys in and go. The range should be sufficient that it should read everytime, regardless of the orientation of the keyfob.

I took that video at about 1:30AM after working on it for several hours - things weren't completely done but I was excited that everything worked and wanted to post something.

Thanks for your work on this and keeping us Maxima guys informed. I think moving the antenna to the storage area or even cupholders is a good idea. Any speicifcs on the part u just ordered?

The part is nothing special, the DEI 556U has been out for years. It's designed to allow remote start systems to bypass the OEM immobilizer.

The pushbutton start system was basically designed as a remote start with an RFID tag and a pushbutton instead of a remote so this bypass should integrate with it with no problems.

I do have plans to allow remote starting from the OEM keyfob!

I think you guys have a good idea but no one thinking outside the box. I think if I can have remote start for my car then I should be able to tap into that setup with a remote pushbutton. one side transmitter and the other reciever. with the remote start I believe they have to do some crazy stuff to the ignition not really sure, but I know I was quoted $150 to add remote start to my alarm system. while they are in there installing remote start they can hook this up. If you are serious about it I would call your local mod shop like mobile audio or any other reputable custom audio/alarm shop. Remote start means no key, and no key means problem solved right. Might even be able to incorperate the idea into a shift ****.

Remote starts are designed to shut down when:

1. you step on the brake
2. RPM goes over 4,000RPM
3. after a preset amount of time

A remote start is a decent idea if you just want to be able to start the car with a pushbutton, but it won't really work if you want to be able to drive the car with no key.

As far as "thinking outside the box" that wasn't the objective here - the objective was to create a system that operates exactly like the OEM Nissan system. The "outside the box" part comes from adding things like remote start to the base module.

As far as remote start on a 6mt the Nissan cars have a P/NP switch that can tell the module that the car is in N. You can safely add remote starts to almost all newer Nissan vehicles using this signal.

if oem ignition is what you want then why not just get nissan to install a new ignition system? I thought push button was standard in 08 and 09 model nissans. my buddies 08 versa has push start.

Because installing a system is much cheaper then replacing the car. You wouldn't be able to have Nissan just "install" one of their OEM systems in a car that wasn't designed for it. The OEM systems are integrated in to all the different components of the car - you would have to pretty much rewire everything.
