I'm also planning on moving the antenna further back to sit under the little storage pocket in the center console. That way I should be able to just drop the keys in and go. The range should be sufficient that it should read everytime, regardless of the orientation of the keyfob.

I took that video at about 1:30AM after working on it for several hours - things weren't completely done but I was excited that everything worked and wanted to post something.
Why not use the same one designed for Nissans? It does not require a key. Something like this one:

So I have just one question. If you have a button to Start/Stop your ignition, what happens when the button gets stuck and doesn't wanna "Stop" the iginition? I mean it's a bit harder to break a key in the iginition, but pretty easy to break a pushbutton. Haven't heard of it happening yet but the technology is fairly new compared to the key iginition.

So I just looked throught the Body Lock Security section of the service manual and read that the NVIS/NATS ignition is what we use and requires an identification code, which is in the key and programmed in the BCM. The code comes from the key to the NATS amp then to the BCM. This is the way in. In the troubleshooting it says that the BCM is loaded with Key codes, and if your key's code is not in the BCM it will not work. Is there a way to have the codes entered? If you could buy an Altima NATS antenna amplifier and Transponder key then you should be able to rig a push start to the ignition system. Basically the Transponder sends the identification signal to the amp then the BCM saying "the car can start now push the button". Push start and walla right? Now since you have the transponder to start and not the key how do you get the radio to work without starting the car? Does the transponder automatically put the car in "ON" or "ACC" position when within range? You won't be able to get the doors to unlock when you get close to the car, unless you rigged it to trigger somehow from the amplifier. I think in the altimas the BCM would actually do all this. Unfortunatly we can't just swap BCMs.

That one would have worked as well. I went with the 556U because I got the thing shipped to my door for under $20. The other bypasses are a bit more and I can't justify spending the extra money when I've had my valet key sitting in a desk drawer at my parents house (not even at my house) since '03 when I bought the car new. I figured I'll grind the key down and install it in the 556U and be done with it.

The buttons are genuine OEM Nissan push buttons - they are extremely reliable and redundent in nature (there are actually two seperate parallel buttons inside the unit). I'm not saying it would be impossible to break the switch, but I seriously doubt it will break under "normal operation conditions".

As far as the OEM system the BCM communicates with the IPDM and the ECU through the CAN bus. Once you start swapping out CAN bus parts you pretty much have to rewire every electronic part of the car. The intelligent key system also has multiple antennas places throughout the car that would need to be added to get the system to function correctly.

whats the point anyway tho if you have to turn the key? the whole point to pbstart is that when you get in the car your "keys" can be in your pocket, put your foot on the brake and start the car without taking the keys out.....if you can bypass that sweet, not cool enough for me to work on doing that tho
