If people could check theirs just to make sure, then that would be great.

coolmax05-that's what I also thought too, since the BIG notch in the middle would place it there...and I didn't know that one had to make it TDC to install the pulley...

It's not for the pulley/belt itself, per se...it's for the replacement of the timing chain I believe (at a later point).

The timing on our cars is controlled by the computer using crank sensors. But the crank has to positioned correctly in reference to the cam. To accomplish this, both the cam and (in this case) the UDP must be in a certain position to each other. You do this using the marks on the UDP and the cam.

The cam opens and closes the valves at particular time relationship to the pistons.

Ultimately the timing chain determines the relationship between the pistons and valves in the engine. That's why you want it replaced before taking any chances on it slipping or breaking.

The UDP itself has no bearing on the relationship between the cam and the crankshaft.

Your question was answered by post #6 a while ago. He just didn't elaborate. That's why the thread was deemed dead on arrival. Why the others didn't see marks on their UDP's is a mystery. Consider yourself lucky!

Every car i have owned has had a timing mark on the pulley. That's the first thing i thought it was when i saw the picture of his pulley.

Keep in mind the UDP only goes on one way due to the "notch" even though it's circular.
VQ's use timing chains, no need for setting it to TDC if you are changing the pulley, the pully just runs the accesorries (a/c, steering, etc..)

And to think i almost bought that UDP too lol. Thats some pretty half assed work on the "timing marks"

Just did a quick search and HIBE took some pictures of his before he put it on. In his first picture you can see the marks.

That's exactly what I told them too! Looks like they just took a dremel and zapped a few lines in it without cleaning them up!

hmmm, I guess I'm just going to try and clean the lines up a little bit, and call it a day.

Just trying to be funny, not directed at anyone! I wouldn't do any more than just run a flat file on the belt side of the pulley lip. Other than That I'd leave it alone.

Looks more like the wacked it with a chisel. I'll see if I can check my stock pulley when I get home and look over my pics of my UR SCpulley as well.

Here a pic of an UR UDP, I wonder if the little tabs that stick out off the edger are the timing marks?

Installed pic but nothing clear in this one

Does Cosmoracing's UDP have the hollowed out holes like the unorthodox UDP?

those are for the crank position sensor. without those tabs, the crank position sensor would go

Lol, CPS works off reluctance. Needs steel not aluminum. Those sensors are behind timing covers or some nature of protection 99% of the time. They are just timing alignment marks.

So if the CosmoRacing pulley doesn't have that then what...I'm doubtful on that, since a few have already installed with no problem

I might be a little late , but you do get what you pay for , Unorthodx have markings on their pulleys like AEM .. Cosmo or Top Speed , Arospeed Pulleys dont have acutally engraving markings.. Dan those arent damage markings.. those are for the timming.

your perfectly fine ..

I'd rather save $150 some and get 3 little half-assed markings than pay $150 more to get some laser etched ones!

For those who have installed the UDP on their max....Did you notice any electrical power issues to any components of the car or any other issues associated with the UDP upgrade?
