6 days later is probably a little to long to blame it on an oil change. Excessive white smoke may indicate a bad pre-cat but I'm not sure. I know some have melted their pre-cats.

Just take it in and tell them it gave a check engine light and started acting up. They will pull the code and check it out. Ask them up front about any charges just so you have an idea.

Call them, tell them you have a SES light and smoke, and thats it. Yes it's covered... ask them if you arent sure, they'll tell you. They dont charge for calling and asking. I keep calling them and I never got a bill for that :P

I dont see why you would be desperate. You paid for that warranty, drop your car and tell them to fix it for free, thats all....

One more thing. I bought this car in October of 2007. The extedned warrenty is not under my name. Should i have the guy i bought it from call the dealer and tell them that his "friend" is dropping the car off?

I bought a 04 SL last month with 36500 on it. I think I might have the shimmy problem to. My steering wheel does vibrate around 60 mph only. I thought that maybe the tires weren't balanced. I'm gonna try to get my wheels balanced. If it doesn't work guess I'm just gonna have to live with it for as long as I have the max.

yeah you should be abe to transfer the warranty over with no problems. Also just take it in and just say the ses light is on and that its running rough. It should be covered under warranty.

-The air in the heat coil and cold air issue.

I do have the 100,00 Mile gold preferred Warranty. SO guess I will see. I like the Max in the begining. Far inferior to my 96 with 234,000 Miles on it.

Welcome to the unknown of buying used!!!

good luck with the dealership covering that for you, i heard they give problems with transfering those warranties, mostly when bought at other dealers though.

Hey all I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima With 52,xxx Miles on it. So far, I kinda love/hate it.

As i haVe written before I got an oil change on 3/10/2008 from a quick lube place... Now about 6 days later I am having the following issues with the car:

- Rough Start
- Check Engine Light
- Excessive white smoke from tail pipe that smells like gas. Huge cloud of some when accelerated.

I checked the oil level and it looks fine. I belive they have me 4.3 liters of 10w30 castrol oil.

Anyhow i have the 100,000 Mile 7 year Gold Preferred Plus Warrenty. I am not sure if i should tell them about the oil change. Any how I am also love on cash.

Can anyone give me any advice on how to work with the dealer and ensure they obey the warrenty.

One more thing. I bought this car in October of 2007. The extedned warrenty is not under my name. Should i have the guy i bought it from call the dealer and tell them that his "friend" is dropping the car off?

Please Help.
my o4 with 72.5 k started doing the same thing. So i took it to the dealer, they found the oil to be like 2 quarts to low. I got my oil change from some quick lube place too. On top of that it my transmission crapped out two, thank god for the extended warranty.

My oil was changed by nissan before I bought the car and it was half a pint too low. Weird dealership, dont they just know how much to fill?

you mean 1 cup? aka 1/2 a pint? my changes vary by a cup. says 4.25 quarts, but i use 4.5 quarts sometimes. that would be 1/2 a pint.

Sorry I meant half a quart. Here it's in liters so I was confused with the term.

I had to pour half a bottle (so thats 2 cups), and it's still a tad low (2 diamonds below the full line on the dipstick)

Results of Extened of my 04 Maxima in Show

Hell all i took my Maxima to the dealer in Manhattan. Class act! Good People. I towed my car over to the dealer and got a quick repsonce. I was told that my issue was my Fuel Injector has went bad. They stated it was covered by my factor 60,000 mile 60 month warranty. No CHARGE!!! They also have me a voucher for a rental car for Enterprise which i have to get. I think they can lend me a Maxima or Altima..

However, they told me i needed the following work done
  • New Brakes
  • New Rotors
  • Drain brake fluid
  • New belts

They quoted me at $1400.00 I said Ill get it done by a 3rd party... She stated if i get new NIssan Parts they have to be Nissan Parts... PADS and all... is that true?

Also does the Extened Warranty cover failed struts at 52,000?

Uh, seriously, 1400$ for a brake job and changing belts, thats ridiculous.

My brakes on the max are not nissan. I dont know where the previous owner did them, but they arent nissan, and they are fine.

That's freakin crazy, I'm selling RotoPro (painted red) drilled/slotted front & rear rotors, EBC red stuff ceramic racing brake pads F/R, (Rotors and pads were installed at the same time and BOTH have less than 600 miles on them (pads are good for 30-50K miles). Mossey Performance steel braided brake lines (F/R), good for the life of the car!!! All for $250 (not including shipping) but even after installation at any respectable brake shop would set you back another $200-250 total for installation. What a stealersip crock of ****!!!

The rotors in the picture have already been repainted (red) with G2 caliper paint rated at 950 degrees!!!
