Brake light is on

My brake light stayed on after I left my house today - thought maybe I hadn't released the e brake all the way, but that wasn't it. Checked the brake fluid and its topped off. There was a little bit of sediment in the bottom of the reservoir though.

What else could it be? The manual says to go to a Nissan dealer........trying to avoid that route.

Parking brake is fully released, but I was unaware of a switch - where is it?

Switch is inside by bottom of brake lever. U have to dig for it. That could be faulty or not releasing. Also could be short circuit in wiring.

How do you get to it - disassemble the console?

Once you get there.....how do you test the switch?

Don't take chances with your life or someone elses. You don't have to go to the dealer, you can go to a Pepboys or a Goodyear, but going to the dealer ensures that they can properly diagnose your problem before it's too late.

This has happened before...

lol it wont go out. and it'll kill your battery. What has happened is that the thing that is pressed when you stop pressing your breaks has broken off.. I suggest you check that because on my maxima that was the problem. All you have to do to fix it is get a nail and a bolt and put them in the place of where that break release was... That solved mine.. Hope thats the only problem with yours.

Mine did the same thing the other day, after i inspected my brakes. As i took off my passenger front tire my brake pad was worn all the way down so i replaced them and my brake light turned off just my 2 cents.....

I'm an idiot, but I got it figured out.

Brake fluid was low. I saw the two hash marks on the side of the reservoir while looking at it from the front. They are almost identical to the ones on my clutch reservoir....mine may be slightly different that others as I've had my clutch MC replaced. (Don't know if it included a new reservoir)

In any case...until I looked at the SIDE of the brake reservoir I didn't realize where the high and low mark actually are. The hash marks I saw are just part of the molding. When properly viewing the high/low marks I realized that I was low on brake fluid.

Yep, I'm an idiot. If you looked at my clutch reservoir you would only think I'm a partial idiot though as the high low marks are almost identical to those on the brake reservoir.

So now the question is, why was your brake fluid low? Pad wear or a leak. Keep an eye out for changes. If the light comes on again soon most likely you've got a leak to take care of.

Well because I had originally filled it to what I thought was the "high mark", it was low to begin with. But the pads are getting low...EBC Redstuff didn't last long at all. Not sure what I'll try next.....I've had about everything. Probably go back to Hawk or Axxis.
