Throttle Body

Ok, did the search and nothing came up. I did this on my 5th, 4th, and 3rd gen. I just got this and it still appears to have a throttle body. Electronic no cables (of course). Doesn't it have to be cleaned periodically? I'd like to see a procedure on it.

Thanks,

eh Im kinda of misunderstand , you just got a 6th gen(DBW - Drive By Wire) , basically your asking can the throttle body be cleaned out ?

Yes you can spray and clean it.

NO! I did this and screwed my car up. Still driving with a CEL and slightly high idle bc of my stupidity.

What did you do , and what codes are you throwing ?

Disconnected the battery for 15 mins , then tap the postive terminal on the battery once and then tighten it up.
It will reflash the ECU , sometimes the DBW gets stuck open and this is the steps to fix it.

This might be the same issue

That won't work either. I did the same thing and accidently tapped tha throtle plate. If you really don't know what you are doing, take it to the dealership and have them clean it for you. I had to take my car to get my idle re-adjusted. Idle, ecu, and throtle position re-learn did not work for me when I attempted to fix it my self. I also disconnected my battery overnight. I had to pay about $100 to get it fixed at the dealership.

If you choose to clean it yourself, don't spray directly on the throttle. Wet a clean lint free rag with TB cleaner and wipe the TB without touching the plate.

Ok what we're aying is the TB has to be cleaned (properly) at the dealer right. There goes another owner maintenance job. Gotta shell out the big bugs now. That sucks...

To clean the throttle body correctly the flap and the flap seat need to be cleaned. The seat is where a lot of the dirt accumulates. Sounds like if you touch that flap she throws a code.

not mines , but then again ive taken the whole TB apart from the allen screws.

I Belive Ive open the flap/TB plate as well before on the car without any codes.

Disconnect the battery before you do it then if your worry about throwing codes

Ok Myer, Nizmo says no problems if you disconnect the battery. Did you do that before you worked on the TB?? Nizmo when opening the TB plate, are you going against any resistance? A spring? maybe TB motor? It's not like throttle cables with a spring return.

Thanks Nizmo, let me know if I got it right:
1) Disconnect battery
2) Disconnect connector going to TB
3) Remove TB
4) Clean with soft tooth brush, ok to manually open and close butterfly valve to completely clean both sides and seat.
5) Install TB.
6) With negative lead attached to battery, tap the positive lead once and reinstall.

Good to go right?

yes your good to go , you dont need to do #6 , thats only when the TB gets stuck open which is a common problem on the 350z/G35s

I havent seen any of them stuck on the Maximas and Altimas.

I sprayed and cleand my throttle body withouth disconnecting the TB and now it the idle is high. I don't hear the TB adjusting itself when I turn the ignition switch off either. I think I may have damaged it. Does anyone know how to re-program the TB?
