K & N filters are good filters. I don't use one and never want to. Your plugs look like what my friend who use to work for a filter maker said they would. This what he told me, Your car will suck the oil right up and if they dry out then you are in even more trouble. just buy a WIX and replace it every 10k.

That is exactly what I thought but I checked the tube going to throttle body clean and dry inside.
Anyway done now like night and day difference which i did not expect.
Rough Idle GONE. Lag Gone.
Set speed control @ 65 and was getting 28MPG with a computer reset @65 so we will see, Same before was 23Mpg.
Throttle body and Manifold also Cleaned like new.
and NGK Irridium Plugs.
Throttle is instant now runnung great.
One thing I did notice was Nissan Gorrilad the spark plugs WAY too tight.
I will check the gaps on the old plugs tommorow and let you know.
Also engine threw 4 codes on restart. I cleared them and drove 15 mins they did not come back.

Apparently these NGK Irridium Plugs are it. I was reading for every 100HP over stock go a step colder though.

Great; sounds like you made some serious headway that justifies your hard work. Yeah, if the plugs were too tight, then they were too far into the combustion chamber...making them more of a "cold" type of plug than they actually need to be. Hence, possibly the lower performance overall. The torque specs are very important and are factory calibrated for the characteristcis of the chamber/fuel/air.

Again, congrats on the benefits of your hard work.

If you really want to add, or I should say maximize, the performance of your engine, then cut the overall weight down of the car. Get the crap out of it. You can also cut some serious weight with new rims/wheels. The resistance that the stock wheels place against the inertia that is generated by our engine is over the top. Nissan would certainly do better to figure out some lower weight rims to add to the overall performance of the engine. For instance, my winter steel rims weight almost half as much as my summer stock rims. Kind of sad and certainly noticeable with acceleration from a dead stop or while already in motion.

I did it and kept same gasket, was fine at 140 000km, no problem.

used NGK iridium. Absolutely no difference over 140K used plats.

Do you know how spark plugs work bud? They fire continuously with the cylinder. They play a role in performance and gas mileage. Your probably thinking of a starter.

You just inspired me to do the same to my newly aquired 04 se 6-speed. I live in NYC where the price for regular gas is 4.30 and its really hurting me at the pump. at this point i am willing to do anything to improve MPGs. you mentioned you had enough pics for a write-up, you game?

I know everyone here likes the NGKs, but I put Bosch Platinum 4 in my car 30K miles ago and I love them, no problems and excellent gas mileage, 100% street driving, with heavy foot I get 18MPG, only freeway at ~70mph I get 28MPG...can't complain.

I put ngk iridiums and cleaned TB and whole manifold. Reset the ECU and did all learning procedures.

Made absolutely no difference at all, in either idle, performance or fuel.
It was fine, it's still fine...
